Default A quick question about the exhaust crossmember

Did you guys leave it there after you installed your headers/y-pipe? Mine is still on there, but it's giving me hell with rattles, vibrations, and squeeking. Is there anything good to use to put in-between it and the Y-pipe to soak up these noises?

Mine's been gone for over a year with TONS of hard launches. You can bend it with your hands, it's a piece of ****.

How's your exhaust piping look without that thing in there? Not too much movement or banging around? Does it hang down much?

My Y pipe is 3.5 inch to a 4 inch I pipe out the back. Everything but the collecters is welded up with a few hangers. I get no bangs or rattles (that i can hear..) Being 3.5 inch, it's kind of low, but i have never scraped on any speedbump

Without any hangers or anything, I'm thinking my exhaust is going to hang down way too low without the crossmember there. Maybe I'll just pull it out and bang the hell out of it with a hammer, try to get it to fit a little better.

I took the brace off on mine and it doesn't hang to low. I've had it off for 2 months and have a 3 inch exhaust system, doesn't hang low at all.

I just took mine off tonight....the exhaust didn't seem to drop down at all. Hopefully that will get rid of some of the annoying sounds I've been getting lately.

crossmember is not there for the exhaust. If your exhaust were to move when you took it off, then your exhaust would need some work . Sounds like you have it covered now..

I put a couple thick washers between my cross over and floorpan, and that solved the problem right away, I actually didn't even have to put washers on both sides to make it stop. I wanted to keep my brace, I figured it must help even slightly at keeping th car from twisting.

Wow, I guess that shows my ignorance. That crossmember is so flimsy, I can't imagine it actually helping to stiffen up the chassis at all.

exactly! that thing is so flimsy, its pointless. All the guys (including myself) with a TD setup cant run one anyways, and no one has noticed any problems yet. Mine has been gone for 2 years.
