Default Sun Shell Broke

Broke the sun shell in my car is this common, I know it is real thin

yes that is probably the most common tranny part that breaks....GM and others make a speacially hardened sun sheld that should hold up much better

Do you know how you broke it? Taking off from a stop sign/shifting/what?

Just curious so I can prolong mine until I put a new one in. Thanks.

Had to have broken when I launched kinda hard from a stop sign, because as soon as I launched the trans started acting funny and reverse was completely gone.

no, the reaction shell breaks from not letting the trans fully engauge into gear. every time you put car in reverse and hit the gas while the shell it is not fully engauged you stress that and eventually wear all the splines down and you have no r,2,and 4. at the dealership we see alot of women driven cars (no offense ladys) with stripped shells. there are companies that make hardned shells.
