What is that for?
Ok, doing some underhood maintenance this weekend it occurred to me that I have no idea what that box like thing that goes in line between the airbox lid and maf that is almost as wide as the radiator and is clipped/bolted to it is for. Anyway, does anybody know what purpose that serves in the intake track?

If you are refering to the baffle the only thing it does is silence the intake air. It creates a lot of turbulence going into the TB. Like they said, get a lid and it goes away. You'll also get a cool "sucking" noise out of the front of your car once it's gone.

are the baffles in the stock lid? The stock lid goes onto this piece and it is pinned to the radiator support/holder in that pic.
Also, I'm planning on getting a lid next week.

The stock lid does have some baffles in it, but the box that you are referring to is just there to silence the intake air. It serves no other purpose. As said, when you get an aftermarket lid it will be gone.
