I raced the SS for the first time since I have gotten it at IRP in indianapolis. My car is bone stock the only weight reduction was I had to take the mats out in case they some how rolled under the pedals ;). So with that said it was my first time dealing with the tree and I'm a noob I overshot the staging area and had to back up. wow was the crowd booing. the first run I did i ran a 14.532@100.15, 2nd run14.048@103.45, 3rd run 13.919@104.40, and 4th run was13.963@103.5(A honda blew up on the track and leaked coolant everywhere spun tires in third.)
It overall I think was pretty impressive for stock. my Reaction times sucked.671 was the first run and it went up to .848 on 2nd, 3rd was .752 and 4th was.724 :newbie:

Being you were at IRP I'm betting your 60' times were in the 2.3-2.4 range. Am I right?
Bone stock with my 01 at IRP I ran a 13.7 @ 104 with a 2.3 60'.

Practice makes perfect. My very first pass down a dragstrip was at IRP back in the fall of 2001, and it was in the 14's too. I've got a personal best at IRP of 13.22 @ 107+ as of this year.
Did they ask you to take the floor mats out? Usually the tech line there isn't that technical. :)

yeah I took the mats out and yes I had 2.3 60' times. It was the biggest cluster f*ck I have ever seen. they weren't good at directing people.

Sounds like a typical Tuesday night at IRP. :) If you can look past all that, it's still a fun time.

I like to run out there but it does get real packed somtimes. You should have seen opening night this year. There were about 250 cars there. My first time with my car netted 13.20's and 13.30's with a few bolt ons it came with and street tires.
It is fun though.

I hate IRP. Last time I was there was when I spun a bearing in my car and there was NO track prep. I feel the track doesn't like me so I haven't went back. :)

Sometimes you can get leftover track prep from a weekend event :) That's if it doesn't rain in between the event and Tuesday night. Usually the Tuesday right after the Division 3 event, Goodguys, and Super Chevy are good nights to go. You've always got Bunker Hill :)

I've made it a habit to skip the first night of the year due to the high number of cars. The following Tuesday usually has very light attendance. The last night of the year is usually pretty busy too.

i liked IRP when i went, there were quite a few cars but i still made 14, yes 14 passes in one night... consistant 2.0 60's (street tires are better than DRs at IRP as you know) and several 13.4s @103 on a completely bone stock 2000 LS1 A4...next time i go im going to drop my jack and spare and do some other weight loss, drop my t stat and drop my air pressure.. see how much of a freak she really is...
CashMoney
08-27-2005, 09:11 AM
What do you mean by dropping your air pressure?
Cop Car
08-27-2005, 01:03 PM
the less air pressure you have in your tires, the better they hook up nomral; operating psi lets say is 35, if you drop it down to 25 the tires will hook better. porblem with that sometimes is that at the end of the track the car will sometimes get squirley
s346k
08-28-2005, 11:32 PM
that car doesn't have enough top end ass to get squirley. the only thing you'll accomplish my dropping 10 psi out of your tires is successfully dropping your trap speed by ~1-1.5 mph. newb!

I have to kind of disagree with this. If he is running DR's and had pressure at 35psi, then droping them to 25 will help him with traction. If it is street tires it doesn't really matter. Not to sound like a dick, but how do you have the right to call someone a newb unless you personally know him, then its fair game. :)

I have never seen a street tire being better then a drag radial on ANY track. Care to explain the theory on this?

dirty ass track, trust me, go to IRP... anyone who has been there knows that the traction sucks. i cut 2.0s with street tires... im sure anyone else who has been to IRP on Tuesday night knows how good of a 60' that is...
as for that other comment, yeah he knows me and no i wasnt running DRs

08-30-2005, 12:12 PM
i was just trying to start some shit. but seriously, as i've said before...i highly doubt that you'll cut much better than a 2.0x 60' with stock everything. you can't flash the converter any more than you did OR torque it up any more than you did. i'd take a 2.0 and be happy (i did :D) after you do some uh...slight modifying, you might look into DRs then. as we all know, less weight = less traction.

I agree that the track prep at IRP is usually crappy but how does that mean street tires are better then DR's? With the track not being prepped one would think you would want the stickiest tire possible to compensate for the lack of track prep.
On street tires at IRP I usually cut a 2.3 or 2.4 60'. On ET Streets I cut 2.0's. Which with the stock converter and 2.73's seems to be about the best I can muster up.

when did you leave? later in the night the track was MUCH better... some Fiero dumped anti freeze on the left lane and they cleaned it up. i raced in the left lane about 10-15 cars after they cleaned it up and i ran my best time of the night, 13.3 @105 w/ 2.1 60'
my friend had a 95 Cobra there. he was running 13.2-13.6 @ 113-115 allll day/night, untill after the track sat for 20-30 minutes... then he ran a 12.9 and a 12.4 @115-117 i belive he even manged to get under a 2.0 60' w/ a 5 speed and street tires.
what was insane is how they didnt even have the timing equipment turned on the for the first couple of cars! nobody directing traffic (again) etc etc. IRP sucks bigtime
btw i belive i saw your car there, only pewter T/A i saw... we need to meet up sometime, i dont know if ill be going back there anytime soon though (not really worth it to spend $15 and drive 45 minutes to run your stock car and get the same results every time IF you get traction) you ever at the suds?

I had better luck in the right lane all evening. I was there until about twenty till 8. The track was definitely getting better by that time, but wasn't nearly as good as it's been in the past. My best for the evening was a 13.08. My best 60 ft. for the evening was a 2.07. I've run a 13.06 before and was looking to better on that with the cooler temps (I just got my IRP email newsletter tonight, and there are no street legal drags on Oct 4th).
I didn't get there until a little after 6, and I noticed that they lanes weren't moving yet. I've had the "no timeslip" thing happen to me before....that isn't cool at all.
Yep, I didn't see any other pewter 'birds there, so it was me you saw :) I didn't see your car there this time. If you ever race there again, do yourself a favor and pick up a Trader or Wheels and Deals. It'll cost you $2.11 but you'll get a $5 off coupon inside. I know what you mean about the drive. I live about 50 miles North of the track, but I work on the Eastside of Indy. I just drive the car to work on the days I race.
I've never been to the Suds before, but I'd like to go down that way sometime. I have a buddy with a red '95 Firehawk that frequents Suds.

Today is probably the best racing weather we've had all year. Temps in the mid 60's and cloudy. It wasn't too cold to race (which it has been in the past during this time of the year), and it wasn't raining. For some reason, they cancelled tonight's street legals due to the weather. They cancelled last week, and now this week. With only two dates left, I'm getting antsy :)
I'm just glad I have the internet at work, and can check it right before I leave. I'd hate to guess how many trek out to Clermont only to find the gates shut (been there done that).
Sorry. Rant over. :)

I arrived there(IRP) at 6:00PM and the gates were closed and a lady was coming out of the office, I asked her what happened and she said the Operations Manager called it off at 3:00PM. When they cancel it, it usually doesn't get posted on their website until after 3:30 p.m. and sometimes not even until 4:00 p.m.
The low is only supposed to be 55 degrees. Nothing wrong with racing at that temp.

I live about an hour from IRP, and the very same thing happened to me about this time last year. :(
I'm not much for 1/8 racing, but I'm about 45 minutes from Bunker Hill which is an 1/8 mile track if I ever change my mind. I am also about 45 minutes from Muncie. I might just start going there too. I basically grew up at both of those tracks when I was a kid, so it would be kind of fun to race there.

I was actually pretty impressed with how well IRP was hooking, usually my nittos are sliding all over the place there.
Anyone want to go hit up Muncie on Wednesday night, I wouldn't mind trying that track out.

Their test and tune nights go until October 26th.

They cancelled the final Street Legal night at IRP, so don't bother to go out there. I know several of you found out the hard way two weeks ago.

It's strange other smaller venues operate in these temps with no problems but the Big Dog cannot. If it was possible everyone should boycott them next year and patronize the other drag racing venues. The lazy bastards just don't want to work and they rely on their reputation and big events to sustain them. At least they were considerate enough to call it before 3:00 P.M so nobody would drive there to find the gates closed.

Amen to this statement. I invited several frriends to meet at my house to head for IRP yesterday. One lives in Lafayette and came all the way down here just to drive back home after finding out the news. I agree that whoever was in charge of the final track day was either too lazy to go rummaging through his winter clothes closet to find a little windbreaker for his cold little arse or else they were just too busy :hump: whatever available wetspot they could find, which obviously sounded a lot better to that person than unlocking the gates at the track and doing all the track prep for us speed freaks to have fun racing one last time this year. Of course this was my first opportunity to race all year cause of work. Story short: We were pissed! Life does go on I just wanted to let of some steam, but I was so ticked yesterday I swore I'd never go to IRP again. I'll find out if that holds true.
