hardened stock rods + NOS = ??? I just bought a set of pistons they are the lunati LS17H12SD 2cc Flat Top Piston 1.312" Compression Height 3.903" Bore. 3.622" Stroke X 6.125" Rod Length. 1.5mm–1.5mm–3mm Ring Grooves. 4032 Alloy. 10.6:1 with 67cc Head. i will be spraying a 100-150 shot or a radix and i was wondering if a set of hardened stock rods would brake with forced induction. check this out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-125...spagenameZWDVW do they even fit?? any ideas??

As mentionned above, stockers too short for pistons desired.
But FYI, you could criogenicaly treat stock rods and with Katech bolts, they will be as strong (if not stronger) than forged off shelf ones out there

Guys, joke apart, I was serious about the Cryo thing.
I used that technique on my Ex Supra Turbo and you wouldn't believe how stong the alloy gets.
First time i made the mistake of not filing my rings when I Cryo'd them and after trying hard for over an hour, I gave up and bought another set, filed them then sent them back for treatment.
Cryo stock rods with Katech bolts and you got yourself one of the strongest stock rods ever built.
I used that technique on my Ex Supra Turbo and you wouldn't believe how stong the alloy gets.
First time i made the mistake of not filing my rings when I Cryo'd them and after trying hard for over an hour, I gave up and bought another set, filed them then sent them back for treatment.
Cryo stock rods with Katech bolts and you got yourself one of the strongest stock rods ever built.

try, but my guess is these are just stockers that someone is scamming off.......really now, the bid is at $50......

LOL....I like the "modified LS1 rods" in the auction. Heat treated my a$$.
I don't think you can 'heat treat' powdered metal.
I also don't believe cryo treating will make the metal physically any harder. If that were the case I don't think you'd want to do the piston rings. They may not seat properly. It just helps align the particles to make the metal more ductile if I'm not mistaken.

You have to assemble and balance the motor, blueprint, then dissasemble and treat. No seating issues.
During my "Ricer" days
we did this on, inline six Supras, RB Skyline series and various alloy motors.Actually, I'm tempted to do it on a LQ4 iron block to handle insane amount of nitrous and boost. Boring it 60 over without even thinking of sonic testing.
$$$$ just need to rob a bank first.

Probably nothing wrong with the rods on Ebay..... Its just that I would have to have them re-rebuilt before I would be satisfied rather than just take someone's word for it. One thing I have found on Ebay is things can be grossly over exaggerated. They could call them "Top Fuel" LS1 rods if they wanted to. Eagle forged H-Beam rods will do the trick just fine. Did you buy the pistons used? If so I would have them checked out. You need to have the assembly balanced anyway. Note: Need to have the assembly balanced!!!
