Default Fuel level gauge not working, help needed

I put this in fueling and it got exactly 5 views, so I figured I'd try it here too.

As of last week, my fuel gauge has not been working properly. It reads full / very high, and barely gets near the 1/2 tank line when in reality it is near empty.

I had a short last week that was causing my fuel pump to run continuously, even when the car was off. I found the wire in the harness, the insulation had been rubbed through and it was picking up 12v from another wire that was also exposed. The wires were in an extremely awkward location (underneath the ABS module, tucked up next to the strut tower) so I separated the wires slightly and smeared everything with liquid electrical tape. This fixed the fuel pump issue, but I'm wondering if it could have an effect on the fuel level signal.

All plugs in the rear of the car near the tank are secure, etc.

Any / all input or advice will be greatly appreciated.
