Default Target: Callaway and a Cobra

Hey ive decided what im going to do to my 98 Z28 M6, i just need some opinons and some feedback. Im gonna go with QTP High Velocity Collector LTs, Borla XR-1 Mufflers, TDs taken all the way back over the axle with a Dr Gas x pipe, 78mm FAST TB, 78mm FAST intake manifold, 2 QTP Electric cutous w/ flowtech. is there anyone out there thats running with any of these parts? if so, how do you like em and where did you get em and how much? Also, there is a guy that lives by me that has a Callaway Supernatural C8 - stock and another guy with a 2003 SVT Cobra, just exhaust. Do you think i will be able to beat these guys with those parts? So far i only have a Whisper Lid. How much power will i be making? If this isnt enough, i am planning to do a H/C swap pretty soon, i just cant decide which one to do, because i want it to be able to be smogged wihtout me having to swap the stock heads and cam back on. Thanks to anyone who helps me out!

If your in cali, I cant think of a way for you to out run a 03 cobra without added cubes or a poweradded.

If you're going to run LT's through an X and some good mufflers then why do you want the dual cutouts? With that setup you won't gain much w/ the cutouts open over the duals. I say don't buy the cutouts...put that money towards a 90mm intake/TB combo.

well, that will save me some money. I was just going to get the cutouts so it would be louder. But i dont really wanna spend 350+ on something that wont get me that much power, so ill go with the 90mm. is there anything else i should get that would help me out? im just looking for bolt ons right now, really.

The only other bolt-on that you haven't listed is an underdrive pulley and a lid (if you don't already have them). You already mentioned LT's, True duals, 90mm intake/90mm TB. I would say that's about it. You could do an electric waterpump too but that's big bucks for a little bit of power gain. Oh and one last thing. The potential of all these boltons will really be brought out w/ a nice cam. You would be in excess of 400 RWHP easy.

oh im definately doing a heads and cam swap pretty soon, but the only thing is i am trying to find the one i can get the most power out of and still be able to pass california emissions. I heard that a 228/228 .575 112 LSA is about the biggest i would be able to go and still be smog legal. What kind of numbers do you think i would be seeing before i did the heads and cam? would i be in 03/04 Cobra territory?

thats what stang killer was talking about. Pretty much erase everything you have listed up there exhaust wise if you plan on passing emissions, as no long tube will pass with or without cats (as they relocate the cats and thats illegal). You are going to have to get a smaller size cam to pass emissions, and its going to be hard to make a lot of power that way. There is a post around here somewhere about someone that made almost 400rwhp with well thought out heads/cam/bolt ons (stock exhaust) that you can try to duplicate (for much more $$ than you would normally spend), but otherwise your just not going to get in the same class with those cars without FI. A stock cobra you can get fairly easily with some decent bolt ons, but as soon as he drops some $$ for a pulley swap your done.

There you have it. Remember, in cali the largest you can get away with is shorties with catted Y-pipe and a TR224. Patrick made 396 rwhp with stock manifolds/cats but it required the previously mentioned well-thought-out-and-more-expensive-than-it-would-otherwise-be heads/cam package.

If I lived in Cali I'd be going for a power adder, and fast. But I'll NEVER live in cali.

well your first list would have cost you 2700-2800 to do...

AFR 205 heads = 2050
cam kit = 400 bucks. ( look for something like 220/218 560/560 and a 115 lsa they wont even know its there)
SFC's = 125
LCA's = 125

bingo, same price and about 400 rwhp

Not when you already have the springs, retainers, etc...that come with afr heads.

Let me break it down
Cam -$400
Pushrods - $100
Gaskets/Misc - $50
Spring Kit - $250 (won't need)

Well the first list was just for the intake and exhaust, i was just going to save the stock exhaust and put it back on when i need to smog. Should i save the stock intake and throttle body too? does anyone else do this kind of bolting back on stuff? and will i really get 400 rwhp with just a head/cam package and still be smog legal???

I didn't think enough into that. I knew I had to be missing something.

It's been done before so I don't see why you can't do it.
