New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - Trans Am or Camaro

I have been an owner of both. A 2001 Camaro and now a 2002 Trans Am WS6 just wondering, which of these to cars do you like best.

I'll stick by this, you cant go wrong with either one. And when its my turn to buy one, I would be please with either one :)

I went with the Trans Am when I decided to buy an f-body, just liked the looks of the T/A better.

betwwen the SS and WS6 they are both about the same
i you but a z28 and wanted it to look like an SS you would need a hood, spoiler, wheels.
If you get a trans am all you need is a hood and wheels
trans am may be heavier than a Z28 due to larger front and rear bumpers and side skirts

you can't go wrong with an LS1. its up to personal tastes...ive had both and love them both. my SS i have now is so sleek, but the T/A looked meaner than hell. as a cruiser, i personally like my SS. its a little more rare than a WS6...at least around here.

I love the F body in gerneral. But I have to go with the birds. They just seem to look meaner than a Camaro and that is in all generation.

I prefer the Camaro, I just think it looks better than a Trans Am. Don't get me wrong, I like the Firebird, but I love the Camaro.

I always used to like the trans am more by a lot but the SS has been growing on me for a few years and now i have one and wouldn't have it any other way

I'm going to go with Camaro. I love the Camaro line and history. I agree the Trans Am looks mean, but I'd still go with the camaro.

It was quite a toss-up when I was shopping for an LS1 F-body. I went back and forth for 3 months between the WS6 and SS before finally decinding on the SS. The WS6 is a brute and it shows it; like a body builder in a wifebeater. The SS seems a little more refined, like a guy that could kick your ass in a nice suit. Maybe it was the Silver/Ebony combo that finally brought me to my decision. (Couldn't find a WS6 w/ the same.)

I personally LOVE the looks of my Formy. Not many around here and I love it when the ricers talk smack about my V-6 then I Fire it up and they run. I guess this is why I also owned 3 mustang LX's and a 87 f-bird Formula. If I had to choose though it would have to be the Trasns-Am though.

I voted Trans Am ironically... lol I drove 2 ws6's a year before I bought
my ls1. I actually didn't like the camaro's styling at all until I saw one with the
factory ground effects kit (the one I bought)

I prefer the trans am's interior, and its menacing style. Unfortunately I had to
compromise between price and performance. The ws6's were going for about 4k
more than camaros and I got a sweet deal that I couldn't pass so I settled for
the Z28. I love my Z but I've thought several times that I might trade it in for
a ws6, however the mod's are getting a tad too steep for that lol

Nothing like the look of the front end of a TA!

Definately trans am, you can't beat the looks.

There are some great looking Camaros lurking about - but I fell in love with the TA as soon as I realized what one was in 'Smokey and the Bandit' and still prefer them hands down.

For me the Ram Air Hood on a Trans Am with WS6 rims gives it the win.
Even the back end is a bit more aggressive looking than the Camaro.

However, the Camaro with the SS hood is pretty nice, especially when coupled with the Chrome thick 5 spoked rims. I was tempted by many of them before I bought the TA.

Overall, even though I am not big on appearance mods, the Ram Air hood and SS hood are MUST HAVES on these cars.

I do think the styling of the WS6 Package (Hood and Wheels) is TIMELESS and will always be up there in discussions of the BEST LOOKING cars of all time. Especially in PONTIAC RED :devil:

TA, but not by much, when I was shopping for my car a year ago I was going to go with the first stock, clean low mileage LS1 I could find. Both are bad to the bone IMO.

The Trans Am is better built and has better seats. But I still like the Camaro look. Their both great looking cars! :burn: :cheers:

Thats one of the toughest questions ever...I have had two LS1 TAs one base TA and one WS6.....Now I have my 1st SS...maybe its just that I'm still riding the ruh of having my SS but...I will just barely side with the SS...While the TAs look like a 1st class fighter plane...The SS just captures more of a "Bruiser" muscle car look to me...

The WS6 is bad ass. Of course so is the SS. The people who designed these cars need to be the first people in to the car builders hall of fame(as soon as it gets built.)

Personally I love my SS but if I want to get a WS6 fix....I can go over to the in-laws and drive their WS6 convertable.

i couldnt find a LS1 T/A even remotely close to the price of my car. found one that was twice as much though...

I think the Firehawk is the best looking f-body to tell you the truth. I wanted one so bad, but since they only made a handful, it was hard to find one...especially in the price range I wanted. My next favorite is the Camaro, and that is what I got. I like the SS hood, I just don't like the SS spoiler. I wanted to get an SS so bad, but I couldn't find one in the price range I wanted as well. My next choice was a Z28 and I found one I fell in love with and I ended up buying it. 2000 Z28 A4 with 60k miles for $10,500 that came with stock rims and tires, as well as after-market 16" chrome rims and tires. I thought I got a great deal. I love my Camaro! :hump:

They're both things of beauty. Anything with an LS1/T-56 combo deserves respect. I was originally a TA guy ALL the way. Didn't even look at Camaro's. I wanted a TA for YEARS. But once I actually got around to shopping, the Camaro really grew on me. And when the time came to buy, the best deal I had in front of me was a beautifully clean, modded, Camaro SS. Go figure. I've had more than one person rib me a little for buying a Camaro instead of a TA, but I love my Camaro just the same.

They're both beautiful in different respects. The Camaro is a little more of a clean, no-nonsense muscle car. The TA is more of a "I'm going to beat your ass to next Tuesday", sexy, intimidating look. I like 'em both!

(Don't get me wrong...sometimes I see my car at night, and it just screams "Don't fuck with this.")

I'd have to agree with sycotic_reject there. I do like the meaness of the T/A but the Camaro likes more elegant and humble but it's a bad ass on the inside. I think the camaro is definitely sexier too :) It's like James Bond and Vin Diesel, Bond is Sauve and cool and collected, and Diesel's like bulk and action type guns blazing.. you know?

I own a SS and My best friend owns a WS6. We both bought them at the same time. we switch cars all the time and he's always complaining that he likes mine so much better and how much better it feels than his. it's to the point were he is selling his WS6 because he just dosnt like it. I must say that I dislike the WS6 I hate the head lights and I hate the Air Foil. The seering weel is skinnier and the seats feel cheaper. The whole interior just seems cheap. I love my SS and I have loves all t/a's and Camaros and Corvettes my whole life. but I havnt liked the way the way the T/A's have looked the last two gen's. So my vote went totaly with the Camaro

I love my 'maro. I could never bring myself to buy a car with pop-up headlights.

Trans Am. Without a doubt. The interior is nicer, and the car has style. There is also more variety in the models. Comaro: V6, z28, SS. Firebird: V6, Formula, Formula WS6, Formula Firehawk, Trans Am, Trans Am WS6, Trans Am Firehawk. Also, I'd say at least for Florida, for every 20 Comaros I see, I maybe see one Trans Am.

Looked at both before for quite awhile ...loved the TA commercial at the stop light and I fell in love with it...researched them both then decided on the SS. I like to walk softly and carry a big stick and the SS did it for me. The interior of the TA really turned me off. Too busy/cheap looking. And the damn red lights I didn't like at all! I've been in love with my SS every since...It's a bruiser in a well tailored suit...much cleaner lines IMO and oh yeh...much faster! :jest:

I guess I have to vote for "LS1". The camaro looks like a catfish to me and I hate the TA's high wing. I own a Formula and it is made out to look like a V6 right down to the plain-Jane black turn downs in the back. Oh yeah, and the Formula is more rare than a TA.

ya know, everybody has their own opinion. When the ls1 WS6 came out, that's what I wanted. However I've always been a camaro guy. When I went looking, I couldn't take my eyes off the glow and look of the hugger orange on my Z. Last year I found a black 01 WS6 with an M6. Drove it, sorry, but my Z woulda ate that thing for lunch, I came away unimpressed. I took a WS6 last year on the highway and I was bone stock at the time. I know every car is different, and I don't want to offend anyone, but I think the Camaro is more masculine. I love the Z28, cause seems like everyone has an SS and even though my hood needs somethingon it, untill I find or come up with something fairly unique, it will stay a plain hood. It will never be an SS clone. Nothing against any SS's, their badass, I just don't see as many Z28's. Just my thoughts.

Lol, yeah, seen many a "one eye'd winker" when they quit. A buddy of mine used to have to stop, pop the hood and crank them up by hand every time he needed his lights. naaa, not for me.

Again I'd like to point out, love both cars, they are badass, nothing personal against any of the poncho fbody's, just prefer the camaro.

I like both of them, but the WS6 is my choice BY FAR. My buddy drove mine out my driveway this weekend, turned around and as he was coming back off the hill and around my circle drive it was PRICELESS! That front end and hood makes that car look like it could eat you...literally!!!

If it was a choice based on 'bang for buck' I would choose the Camaro with LS1. But, I have always like the style of the Firebird and when I saw the WS6 Trans Am there was no other choice for me.

Did it cost more? You bet.

But, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Makes no difference, Z28, or SS. Both are nice, but neither are a WS6 :) Now I like ALL F-Bodies, the WS6 and Trans Ams are just MY favorite by FAR.

I feel obligated to say that to me, the Z28 is the Camaro. Nothing against the SS or the SS ppl. But when someone says "Z28", you know its a Camaro. The "SS" could be an impala or something. IDK, just my opinion and what the "Z28" is to me.

I'm new to this site and seeing as I'm a dumbass, I don't know what you guys mean by M6 and A4. 99' T/A just bought, so no mods or quarter mile times yet.

Nevermind, M is for manual and A is for Automatic, dumb Capitan.

I like both, own a Camaro now and am looking for an SS. The WS6 looks aggressive but I like the lines (and interior) better. The front looks agressive to me on the TA's but the back and sides look 'bloated' IMO.

CAMAROZ28... cheeper and more aerodynamic! especially at night time when you have those gay flip up headlights on the t/a's. no offense guys! haha. for me the only decision to make is 6spd or stalled auto? i used to think 6spd was the only way to go, now i have a TH400. weird how things change. but not my choice for a camaro Z28.

I took my camaro, and put a trans am ram airish hood on the front and a body kit and now I think it looks kinda like a TA but with a camaro twist.

Factory looks though I'd definitley say a TA would be my choice. There are those rare ss's that have that just right look to them though.

I voted for LS1. When I bought my Camaro I was just looking for an LS1 powered FBody. I checked out Camaro's and Trans Am's but I found the best deal on my Camaro so I with with it.

its the other way around where im at, every one has T/A's n Z28's, few SS's not many WS6's at all, i love both cars but i like the WS6 looks better than SS , only thing i dont like about the SS is the stock grill, looks too cheep n shitty, other than that they look pretty mean too.

I bought my Camaro new but I did consider a Pontiac. I love the rear end of a WS6 but the front end is a little too aggresive for my taste. However, I do prefer the looks of an SS over a plain Z28- but nothing a hood and spoiler won't cure.

I have owned both a 94 Z28 and now a 99 T/A....My vote goes for the 1998 +T/A

Before 1998 For the LT1 cars I liked the look of the camaro better..I especially loved the Lt1 SS's those looked badass. After the restyling in 98 for both cars I didnt care for the front end of the camaro anymore, But I love the back (ass) of the Trans Am and I love the Ram Air Hood and lines of the front bumper/fascia (tits). I owned a camaro once so I thought I would try pontiac, and I like my trans am much better, definately get more looks, and I'm not like everyone else that says they drive a camaro in my hometown.

In the End both cars are Awesome though!!!

i look at the trans am is an over priced camaro, both are beautiful cars. i like the trans am over the z28 but i prefer the look of the SS over all of the f bods just something about that hood and spoiler that gets me all hot in my loins :jest: but thats me. if the trans looks is worth a few extra bucks, go for it. if not get a z cause its the same car as the rest of them.

To my opinion, I have always love the T/A's body. The Hood...omg. But my close friend has a camaro and its clean as hell!! Im planning on getting a T/A because of its rareness here. Too many Camaros going around doesn't stand out much and too much competition against other maros.

i had a chice of a 2000 z/28 or a 2002 t/a ws6 ram air i went with the t/a cause you just dont see alot of them around jackson Ms. and the girls seem to like it too lol but you cant go wrong with either. both great cars and same motor its just what look r you goin for....

I went looking for a TA, but couldn't pass up the Hugger Z when I saw it. Plus the price was right.

Driven from NY to FL many times and my right ass cheek got numb in the T/A seat that I had to use a pillow. The Camaro on the other hand was extremely comfortable. I voted LS1 anyways, since both the cars can be made to be bad ass. :nod:

I like the newer T/A but not the camaro it looks a bit ugly but I would still take one

I always love CAMARO's especialy the first gen's look the best of all IMO, On the 4th gen's I like the hood of the SS CAMARO's looks better, I don’t like the looks of the hood and the BIG nostril’s on the WS6, but I also don’t like the fish eye look of the 4th gen camaro's head light's that much either,It would be nice to have some dark covers for the lights, a meaner looking 3rd gen style or a mean looking after market one that DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE GAY RICE LOOKING ONES I SEE ON CAR'S NOWADAY's, as far the body's of both is concerned I think they are Equal IMO.

That's a hard one but I think I'd have to go with the trans am... mostly because of the look... I can't get enough of the ram air hood :devil:

IDK dude....I wanted a 03 Cobra or 02 Z06 but there's no way in hell I could ever afford one, therefore I was looking for a Black WS6, but this time a MANUAL. I don't really want a new car and have it end up being the same thing, I mean I love my Camaro but if I'm going to spend the time and effort of finding and buying a new I don't want to end up with practically the same thing I had. :bang:

This past week I've wanted a SOM WS6 M6....yea, not going to find one and especially in my price range. So I'm kind of tempted to find a Balck WS6 M6 and lowering it quite a bit and put some nice rims on it. :drive:

A regular formula is a hell of alot more plain then a regular Z28 IMO. :guns:

you can't go wrong with an LS1. its up to personal tastes...ive had both and love them both. my SS i have now is so sleek, but the T/A looked meaner than hell. as a cruiser, i personally like my SS. its a little more rare than a WS6...at least around here.

I think the late 90 Camaro bodies were better than the 00-02's. They look too much like a Jaguar and too round. It needed to retain the sharp corners.

I like the sporty look of camaro seats over the TA...I dont like the goofy headrests or the plastic "ribs" on the side of the backrests...the headrests are seperate and square,not to sporty...the camaro just has a one piece backrest.

I don't like the looks of the Trans Am. Too flashy for a musle car. That is my opinion though.

If it were between a Trans am and a Z28 i would take the transam in a second, but i just love the looks of the SS overall. Around here a SS is more rare than all... I love my decision. But IMO i think dumb people think the transams are way faster than Camaros for some reason.

I have always liked both and always wanted one. I always thought the trans am looked meaner and faster. When it came down to it I bought the Trans am because I found the right car for the right price. Now that I have it and compare it to my friends Camaro I am happy that I bought the Trans am.

there are alot more mustangs than anything around here!! but thats not what were talking about, there are actually more Z28's and formula's around here than WS6's and SS's but there's only 1 or 2 other Hard Top SS's in the modesto area so i had to get the rare car and they barelly made over 1000 of them in 2000. so my vote is obvious!!!!
history of the cars i've owned: i've owned 5 camaros!!!! first car 1986 IROC with a 383 stroker T-Tops bright rally red, second car 1988 IROC T-Tops black, third car 1997 RS black T-Tops, fourth car 2002 SS bright rally red collecters edition T-Tops, fifth car 2000 SS Hard Top (NOW THATS A RARE F-BODY RIGHT THERE!!!!) ok as you can tell i voted for camaro. i agree the trans am is hella nice don't get me wrong i was gonna buy a WS6 trans am, but it's way too flashy and the camaro is more refined and especially the SS OH LORD!!!!! once i got my SS i'll never have anything less!!!!! I had a 99 z28 a4 and I loved it the same.

I really think the design of the Camaro is more timeless and streamlined. There's something I like more about hearing the deep, menacing exhaust note of a V8 in a Camaro over a Trans Am. WS6's seem designed for more of a short term fashion trend. They look mean as hell sometimes, and can cause that "drool" factor, no doubt, but again the Camaro seems to last the test of time.

It's basically the same car with the exception of the spoiler, headlights and positioning of the fog lights.

I was ready to buy an 02 WS6 Ram Air Vert until smelling fresh paint, digging deeper and seeing the bondo...

Ended up with an 02 Z-Vert, but would have been happy with either.

Voted Camaro to even up the vote, and attempt to get my post count into double digits. :jest:

I think the hottest 4th gen in the world is a black on black m6, 1997ss. PERIOD. I love the looks! I mean, ls1 cars are alright, but they are too, idk, just dont look as hardcore.

I'd say the opposite I can't stand the TA headlights,maybe if they sat flush when they are closed...but....they still flip up,which I don't like.

First off, stock verse stock, the camaro's front always looks better than the transam to me. Pop up head lights suck. But thats not saying that I dont like the transam though, i mean, look at what i drive. The rear TA looks vs the Camaro is a toss up, i like the high rise, but it doesnt look good on a Camaro. LT1 camaros pwn ls1 camaros..

Motor is pretty much all the same with a few minor changes in years and special models, but its still an ls1 and will run 13.0-13.6 stock.

I just sold my 97 camaro Z28 and decided i would like to try the Trans Am. So i upgraded a little bit to a 99 LS1 Trans Am. I say upgraded because of the newer motor and it seems to me that the Trans Ams are nicer because they come stock with things like leather, monsoon, and steering wheel controls. These things were optoinal on camaro and they didnt have steering wheel controls until 2000. Just my opinion.

Although the ram air WS6's hood looks awesome, I like the Camaro better, the bulbous rear end of a TA just ruins it for me. A slick no nonsense Camaro is what I fell in love with, but I was more interested in what's under the hood anyways :drive:

LS1 Trans Ams OWN ALL!! Firebirds look like ass! The LS1 SS's are okay....but the LT1 SS is nicer. LT1 SS's look great. The LT1 Trans ams aren't that great.

I have been an owner of both. A 2001 Camaro and now a 2002 Trans Am WS6 just wondering, which of these to cars do you like best.

I think the Firehawk is the best looking f-body to tell you the truth. I wanted one so bad, but since they only made a handful, it was hard to find one...especially in the price range I wanted. My next favorite is the Camaro, and that is what I got. I like the SS hood, I just don't like the SS spoiler. I wanted to get an SS so bad, but I couldn't find one in the price range I wanted as well. My next choice was a Z28 and I found one I fell in love with and I ended up buying it. 2000 Z28 A4 with 60k miles for $10,500 that came with stock rims and tires, as well as after-market 16" chrome rims and tires. I thought I got a great deal. I love my Camaro! :hump:

from the Factory, the WS6 is probably the best looking car. With Appearance mods, the Camaro is easily the best looking just because of all the options. The Trans am is more of a complete package, and the Camaro is more or a clean pallet to do with it as you choose.

I now own an ss, but I haven't seen any others or ws6's for that matter where I am, so they are both pretty rare, I would have preferred a ws6 but I have no problem with how the ss looks the r/a hood is required though.

I love them both, It's a matter of preferance. I happen to like the look of the Trans AM
better. You can't loose with either choise.

I've owned 3 Camaros previously (92rs, 95, 99 z28s), and ever since i first saw the T/A WS6's in 98, i had to have one. Now i own a 2000 T/A WS6, they are just one mean badass looking car. Don't get me wrong, i still love Camaro's. But if i had to pick, it would be a T/A.

Flat hood T/A's and Firehawks are the bestest :)

Amen brother, never own a ford in my family, thats how i learned how to work on cars.lol. Had 3 camaros red 86 IROC, 2000 Blue RS (RS=v6+body kit) and my 2002 Z28 and wouldnt have it any other way. I love Trans Ams though, beautiful piece of machinery!

I went for the TA, for obvious reasons (I own one), but a lowered SS with some wide wheels looks killer. I really just dont suit a camaro, i look goofy driving one (apparently ^^^). I just like everything about my car, how wide it looks from the back, the front, the vents, wing everything. Weird its got all the components of a ricer: unusually large foglights, unnesessary openings on the front, ground effects, big hood (ws6, i want one) and a big wing!

IMO a ws6 looks alot more aggressive than an SS and its got a more functional "ram air" hood which should allow more air in equaling greater power... but I have no idea I would just think it would work like that I have in no way meassured it

I agree with you. I love my SS. It's sleek and looks like it could be mean, but the WS6 is just plain mean. It shows a bit more of its muscle than the SS IMO.

I like the WS6 from the sides but the front to me is just to exaggerated. Like a full of rage Decepticon that is sexually frustrated...if that makes sense :confused: The back lights are just to big and bulgy.

I have an 02 pewter w/ebony interior. The interior is ALL black, no cheapy grey buttons. And to me the Camaros just look smoother and cleaner in and out.

This is why Trans Am is my first pick.

He he... I struggle with the question for too long... I just mixed them... I do like the trans am look more than the camaro 98-02.. I hate the firebirds in 93-97, so I had to get an LT1 camaro. If you have the money LS1 trans am all the way!

I love em both but I gotta go with the TA. Whenever I see a TA from behind at the track doin a burnout with smoke billowing out the wheelwells that gets me goin. I miss bein able to go to the dealers on the weekends and ceckin out all the new ones. :(

Actually the poll started as which do you like better trans am or camaro. But a mod. included the ls1 for those people that don't care and is just happy having an ls1 in their car. :poke:

T/A is my favorite,had a 95,97ws6,98ws6,my new rideis a 99 30th anniv 19k all orig.

When i was shopping for an LS1 car, I didn't really care what it was in. I ended up with a Trans Am. If i had to do it all over again, i would eally try and find an SS, just because of the sleek looks. Trans Am just looks so damn mean though...

Great looks, still sporty with 200 HP, lower insurance, lower cost of ownership, and better for driving in snow. Those are some reasons.

BTW, I can think of a few sports i would get with only 6 cyclinders: 1. Audi S4 2. BMW M3 3. Firebird.
