Default Thermostat Question

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a thermostat that will not allow ur engine to reach normal operating temp. basically keep it cool, curious b/c I replaced my thermostat and the new one is allowing the car to get to norm, and the other never did. . .

What year is your car 99-02 temp gauge is basicly a idiot light. Mine is the same way my fans turn on at 160* and the gauge still reads around 200*.

you need a tune to change your fan settings after you install a new T-stat.

Yes, the stock stats are 195 degree. You can buy 180 and 160 degree stats so it is possible that if you bought your car used it could have had one of these. If they programmed the fans accordingly and you put in a hotter stat the fans could end up running all the time (i.e. your new stat keeps the engine over 195 degrees but the fans are set to come on at 175 degrees).

There is nothing wrong with running the stock stat (more efficient, less carbon build-up) but the fans must be set for what ever stat you run.
