Default Calling out all 98's - mileage and condition

What is your current mileage and condition?

I have 84K and the inside/outside is near perfect. Problems before I purchased include A/C compressor and leaky rear differential (imagine that!!)

I am just about to start modding.

98 Z-28 86k Clean inside and out. Mostly stock (lid, K&N, smooth bellow)
I've only had it a month. Only issue thus far is shorted wire from torque converter sensor to PCM (issue came with the car).

~90k miles. -Had it since there was a bout 2 miles on it in Aug of 97
-Dirty all the time
-one small dent in rear fender/crack in outer door skin
-wife closed garage door and scratched rear bumper
-one very slightly bent wheel
-about one headlight motor issue per week
-passenger a-pillar vent missing one "fin"
-some idiot (me) drove though a carwash with the power antenna up and broke it. Working at a dealership at the time, I fixed it free, only to have the motor fail 6-months later. I made a snazy bracket and picked up a camaro antenna for $15. All fixed, no worries.
-drivers window motor pauses when its hot then starts up again later
-idle's too low since the converter went in in 2001
-steering wheel used to get all sticky and stuff would rub off when it got humid (fixed with afterhthoughts auto matching cover)
-hard to get out of park (button wont push in even with brake pedel depressed - possible issue with linkage cable after converter install...just showed up a year ago...3 years after verter install...)
-T-top center piece is all discolored along with the little triangles behind the windows
-both drl covers are cracked (since 98-99), lights would die once a month but cleaned the connections REALLY well and now its not much of an issue
-rear center panel is super faded ("Trans Am" is an outline, and the bird is LIGHT red)
-AC and Radio ***** showing signs of wear
-Tint job from a friend that I'm not to happy with

BUT (-Knock on Wood-):
Only things that really died (besides the SHITTY headlamp motors) were an alternator in 99 and a waterpump in 03 I think, and that was likely due to shitty dex-cool clogging up the works
NO problems with the tranny/converter (vig3200) since install of the trans cooler (its been 50,000miles!)
Numerous hot-lapped low 8-sec runs (1/8-mile of course) with NO issues
No big issues and I beat the **** out of REGULARLY

98 TA w/61K. a few rock chips on the head light doors and front facia, small crack in dash between 2 of the a/c vent in the center stack, other than that it's in nice shape. stock tranny let go @ 54K, both head light motors have been replaced as well as the driver side window motor, but other than that i havent had any problems out of it. it likes it when i beat on it

98 SS Here...just turned over 86k, not many mods Lid/GMMG/Hooker LT's

Inside is flawless pretty much

outside has very few paint chips...although i haven't washed it in a couple weeks so it is quite dirty

Maintenance has not been a factor either...for the most part

Brake rotors, window motor, and the A/C Compressor was replaced just about 500 miles ago - it went quite suddenly.

other than that I am very pleased with my cars condition.

1998 A4 Z28

83K on the clock
chips in front paint from tiny highway rocks, needs new rotors, new suspension goodies.

other than that she runs like a champ. doesnt much like this TX heat though, constantly thinned oil. I got close to 6.5 quarts in her right now just to shut her up while idling @ high temp. also tranny slips every once in a blue moon

One of my 98's has 59k and is pretty much a race car so it doesn't count. The other has 182k and still runs STRONG for bone stock. Had some rear problems but thats it. Decent shape inside/out too.

Bought mine with 9 miles -- now has 106k or something like that

Its got some battle scars, but overall looks very clean. Interior is perfect. Exterior has a ding in the hood (excuse for me to contact one of our sponsors for a ram air hood), and a ding in the right rear that is nearly invisible. It has a small crack in the paint on a door edge that again is nearly invisible. It has some rock chips on the front bumper cover, and a couple paint spider cracks where someone backed into the rear bumper, but they're not too noticable.

I plan to "freshen it up" with a new paint job and some blingin' wheels at some point, once I decide what to do with her

my bros has 146k and still runs and looks like a champ, the only major problem was a rebuilt tranny, headlight motor, window motor, and antenna, but thats simple just disconect the motor and then you can pull it out as long as you want.....
heres a recent pic...lickily my 2000 maple red still only has 45k

90K was bone stock except suspension and exhaust. Smoked the RR wheel bearing and tons of electrical issues ( all from previous owners alarm install and removal ) Took a year to chase down all the issues.

Current state all apart in pieces in boxes and on shelves. Will not be stock the next time it moves on its own power.

98 TA almost 88k

About one day a week of ******* with those damn headlights.
Still trying to get those headlight covers aligned right after 4 months.
Eats a quart every 700 miles or so. #5 cylinder plug is covered in oil. Valve seals I think and hope.

T1 cam.
Spec st3 clutch, which I liked my 3 year old st3 clutch better!
stock adjustale master
RAYBESTOS SLAVE CYLINDER (GM Hydro parts= crap!)

Still learning the HPTuners

How many of you guys' 98 have pinging problems at low RPM? (1200-2200 RPM) mine does. About 4* to 8* kr.
