Im moving into a really small 1bdr apartment in sept. Have rent for 1090.00/mo on a 670sq ft place. Truck payment and insurance (this is the daily driver), car insurance for the camaro, phone bill, 1 credit card bill (maxed out from the car), all living expenses, ie. food, utility bills, gas, etc...

aaannndd...i dont make shit for money. But I can never sell the car or give up anything that has to do with my car. So I guess I'll probably be selling myself on the corner streets to get that extra cash coming in.

just wondering how many other people are in the same boat as I am..would rather struggle and be poor than say goodbye to their car..or maybe I just have issues... i dunno

damn its expensive out there, I just moved out of my 3 bedroom 1,350sq ft apartment for $700.00 a month to westmont, a 2 bedroom 750sqft apartment for 750, but at this apartment all utilities are included. Screw living out there

I wish I could find a few places out here in that price range. This 1090 is actually pretty cheap. Most are in the 1200-1500 range.

What area are you moving into? We pay 1175 a month for a one bedroom, but it is pretty big (for a one bedroom), Around 850 sqft, and is in a nicer part of town.

That is exactly why I will never live in CA.

Where I live I could get that much space for probably no more than $400 / mo.

im very very very poor at the moment. -1000 in the bank seems to be the reg. wife is in the hospital, so shes not working, and i still have to pay 625 a month for daycare, and we have 50k in medical bills from when she was in the hospital before we had insurance. needless to say, things are SHITTY. thats whats taking me so long to bust some ass in the car, i can't come up with the 250 for exhaust.

What kills me is I am orginally from GA, my parents pay 850 for their 4 bedroom house. Ill be moving back to GA in about 8 months, thats the only thing that keeps me sane.

moving to san clemente. most apts were around that 600-700sq ft size w/ a few exceptions in mission viejo and a few other places i looked at.

I dont really think it has anything to do with being too proud or anything like that. I just cant leave my car after all the time and work i've put on her.

Its not like its the car thats expensive right now anyways. The car is paid off and now that summer is almost over the insurance is almost up so the car will be in the garage for the next few months...til spring anyways

i just have issues i guess.. :(

Have you looked into a studio apt yet? I remember seeing some up there for cheaper than what youre gonna be paying. Or maybe getting a bigger place and getting a room mate?

Your not alone
No, keep the car. It will get better. Figure out how to drum up some more $. rent is that high here too. My girlfriend is a full student and i have to pay for everything. 2 cars, insurance, 2 cell phones, apartment, 8 credit cards, all utilities, living expenses, yada yada. Im keeping my car i just have to be conservative with the mods fro alittle while. Lifes no fun if you give up a hobbie.

Life's no fun when you're in debt either. :( I maxed out my cc after I graduated college just getting ready to live on my own (bed, furniture, dishes, etc). Took me 14 months, and a bank consolidation loan, but I wiped it all out. The best thing I did was to buy Quicken, and enter every single little purchase in to it - and categorize those purchases. I got a real good idea of where my money was going, I could visualize my debt dropping, and I could plan my money better. The logging and graphs allowed me to get a real good estimate of when I'd be debt free, and it gave me all the more incentive to get to a (0) balance. And now 11 years later, it's still the case (no cc debt). But get a handle on your expenses, know where your money is going, make a plan, visualize being out, and you can get there. :thumb:

Note that while you are using Quicken, you must become a slave to it. You must continue to hold true to entering data, or it will become worthless.

The car will never leave me...so thats not really even an option. Im just going to balance my money as best i can. its just time to hold off on mods for the car. the mods have slowed down already so i should be good with that. im not really worried about making rent and payments on time..im sure ill be fine with everything...just a little tight for the first month or two

that sounds like a good idea.. i should give it a shot.. do you put down cash purchases on there also? like lunch. or do you use your debit card for everything since its easier to keep track of.

These days I put everything on my credit card so I can keep track of it. I do very little in cash, because cash runs like water. I also use a card that does rewards (but they rip me off, and cap my rewards at 7500 points per month :P ). I get approx $500 per year in reward certificates to places like Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, etc... (but I run a small business on that card, and spend a LOT! - but I pay it off 100% every month).

Anyhow, if you allow yourself, say, $50/wk in cash, then it's up to you to decide whether or not to log it. If it's over $10, I say log it in to Quicken and deduct that amount from your "weekly cash slush fund"... because it all adds up. When I got in to Quicken, I entered my credit card debts going in, my bank balance, car payments, and all my checkbook / credit card / cash transactions... so every time I ran the graphs of net worth vs debt, I could see the debt shrinking, but I could also run reports and see what gas, food, insurance, electricity, and toys were costing me.

I can relate--I just paid my bills for the month--$2052.30. That was car payment, rent, insurance, and paying off the $600 on two CCs. At least I still have another paycheck worth of cash left in the bank :)

I feel for you on the apt rent thing. I'm paying $1660/month for mine--but at least I have an attached 1 car garage.

Move to ALABAMA, for 1100.00 a month you can have an 2500sq ft brick house with a 2 car garage with a bonus room, and that is for a house that is only 2 years old.
