Invest it for the next couple of years and use it as a down payment for the nest gen coming out. Jk
H/C, headers, exhaust, N20, clutch or convertor and rearend. You will be suprised how far you can stretch $5k using the LS1tech classifieds. This is assuming that you will do most of the labor yourself.

suspension/drivetrain and basic bolt ons+cam, slicks. 9" for a M6. torque arm, lca's, phb, sfc's, lid, headers, exhaust, cam/springs. Think you could get all that done with 5k. Use LS1Tech classifieds alot and its possible

Like most have said above, I'd make it be able to withstand the power being thrown at it in future mods.
12-Bolt, 8.8" or the like with a 3.73 gear (I like 3.73's.)
Built transmission
That should be either cutting it really close to 5k or a little over. If all bought new, of course.
Just doing that and buying some slicks later will drop your times significantly. Then start working on HP mods with suspension components mixed in.
Just my opinion.
