Lock Up Question ? When the converter locks up,is it supposed to slip into lock up or be nice and firm like manually locking it with HP Tuners?

The car has a SS4000 and is a full bolt on car,just wanting to find out how it is suppose to feel.I would think that it sliding into lock up would be hard on the lock up clutch.
