Default new to the board, need help with an idea

this is one helluva cool site. okay heres the deal. I drive a old FWD 2.8 and never really been around drag racing much. this week I was at the cayuga drags and I saw a few guys runnin low buck set ups and havin the time of theyre life. I got talkin with one guy runnin a 85 GP primered and stripped down with a 350 SBC. I asked him how much this cost him a year and he started tellin me that this is a poor mans sports car. he paid 300 for the car, bought the motor for another 500 and threw some 700 dollar slicks out back and he was runnin low 14's all day. he said he didnt even have posi, he was waitin for this one to break first. I really liked this idea and started to realize this was a real opportunity. I work at a pontiac dealer and have a close friend who would help me out with workin on a small block RWD set up since this is relatively new to me. he tells me all the time how great SBC's are and how easy they are to be had, durability etc its gotta be low buck
thats the number one priority. I was thinkin bout a early 80's malibu since theyre light and buyin up intake, headers, torque convertor etc for it and searchin for a decent 350. I found the malibu's to be a bit pricey if theyre in good condition but I'm not picky on models I'l go for a regal, monte etc just no 4 door land yachts. anyways any ideas or suggestions? thanx in advance
I love low buck drag racing!!!!!

I am pretty sure the guy down my road has a 80-81 Malibu for sale. The motor and tranny I believe are out of it but I think come with the car. I live in Caledonia not far from Cayuga. If you want I could have a peak for you. Its almost what I would call Sea foam green and my friends cousin used to own it. It still looks to be in good condition.

What's wrong with a "4 door land yacht"? I love mine. It aint no race car, but that's ok. It's a family car when my kids are in it... And plenty of space for "other things"....

everything you just mentioned, a g body or malibu is huge enough for me and I'm really looking for a cheap car that can gain some performance easily and a 4 door yacht sets that goal back a few football fields if your on a tight budget
