2002 ss or 1999 ss
Hey guys i just sold my 2001 camaro ss a couple of weeks ago and i want to get another ss with under 50000 miles. I was looking into a 2002 with 39000 miles or this 1999 ss 1 owner with 13000 miles. I hear different things like the 01 and 02's have better flowing heads so they are a little quicker but then i hear the 1999's have bigger cams. I just want to know if there is any differences between the two cars and if so what? Also what car would you pick if they are both the same price. Both are very clean inside and out the only bad thing is the 1999 was in a front wreck and the bumper was replaced by the deal and there was a slight nick in the frame that was repaired and it looks beautiful know though. Give me some advice please

the cam difference is very subtle. the bigger cam of the pre 01s makes better horsepower than the 01 cam, but the 01 cam makes more torque. but then when you add the better flowing exhaust and intake manifolds. the injectors were 28 lbs in 01 up and i know my 00 only has 26 pounders. im not sure if 99 had the 28 pounders cuz 98 did. what year did they switch? give us some prices, thatd help out a little bit. give us some more details, color, options, price. also the 01's have the z06 clutch and no egr

They are both black on black leather. Both are t-top. The 1999 is all original. The 2001 has loud mouth, headers, skip elim., and a 5.0 shifter. It has little signs of use. The 1999 looks like it just came from the factory. The seats look brand new never sat in almost. The paint looks brand new factory. It has always been garage kept. Owned by and old man. They both have there good and bad. Its a real tough dicision. I like the low miles on the 1999 but then again it still is an older car. If not taken care of properly and sat so long because of the low mileage it could have been ran with old oil and stuff. They guy seems like he really takes care of his cars he has 3 corvettes a grand national and a bunch of other hot rod cars. So i dunno what to do. Both are asking 15500.

I like the sound of the 02 deal. Plus, if it does have better heads(obviously the LS6 intake, too), then with all the other goodies on it, just add you a beefier cam and hit the road.
Makes me wonder about the "deal" we got on our 00 WS6.

the 01 had 78000 miles on it and my school is about 400 miles from my partents house so i was putting alot of miles on it pretty wuick. I put on like 6500 miles in like 3-4 months. SO the value of the car was going to start depleting fast.

I would consider the "beating" factor I apply....
The 02 has more miles, but 39,000 is not alot, but still 3 times what the 99 has. That is 3 times more chances for it to be beat on.
Next is mods.....fully stock car is most desirable. The 02 has some mods done, indicating the need for more power from the original owner, which means it probably was driven hard. You dont mod a car if you dont drive it that fast always, although many "stock" LS1's have also been driven hard.
The 99 was in a accident....how much impact ?? Bumper could have been replaced due too a cracking...whats a "nick" to the frame??
I dont know about the damage to the 99 but it does sound more appealing...however the 02 does have more go fast stuff then the 99 already installed if you were going to mod, plus the stock 99 to 02 differences..
Is $15,500 a good price ?? Im not sure...

I think this is a easy one, I would love to have the last year
T/A or SS. That's why GM didn't say anything about 02 being
the last year. I think everyone would have waited for the 02.
I love my 00 Zee and have 2 much money in it to get a 02 but
if I had known 02 was the last year I would have waited IMO.
GET THE 2002 AND CALL IT A DAY, YOU WILL END UP MODING
IT ANYWAYS.

Well i saw the car the bumper its not even dented or cracked. It just has scuff marks on it because the old guy driving it hydroplaned in the rain and spun out and grazed a construction barrier. I would probly just buy a new bumper painted for 250 brand new. Like seriously there is not even any signs of impact. I really like the low mileage is the thing.

I dont see what everyone has against wrecked cars. If they are fixed right and fixed with good quality parts they are just as good as one that wasnt wrecked. I work in a body shop an d on the frame rack and with todays technology you can get cars that even have substantial frame damage and they can still come out just as good as a one that was never wrecked. We also sell cars that have been wrecked, we sell a lot of Hondas and you can take one that has been completely clipped, like cutting the front end off behind the door hinges and putting on a new one. And you can sit one of them cars right next to one that has never been wrecked and you would never know the difference. when they stagger the frame rails the seem is stronger the the rest of the frame. But thats just my opinion. I realize that if a car wasn't fixed right or anything then ya it would be a bad thing to buy a car that was wrecked. but most of the time u can see that right away when the body lines and seems of the hood and fenders and stuff dont line up. But me cars that have been wrecked dont bother me that much, i would just look it over really close and make sure everything was done right and ot me it doesnt sound like it was hit hard at all. And the really low mileage would attract me also. The mods on the 02 would scare me more because to me when cars have performance products like that they were obviously driven pretty hard at one point in time. Just me 2 cents... Ben

Thanks guys for all the help and suggestions i really appreciate it. I am going to go look at the 1999 this weekend because the 02 guy wont pick up his phone. I found a bumper painted for 270 brand new so the 13000 miles on the 1999 are looking real good right now. So ill see what happens.

well for those of you that helped out and gave some sugestions i really appreciate but i went ahead and purchased the 1999. It ended up being an awsome choice. the car looks brand new underneith and inside. The paint is mint except the bumper beeing cracked. The car drives like its brand new. So if anyone is selling a black front bumper i would appreciate it. or even passenger fender.

Nice, post up some pics.
I would have gone with 99 too. Low mies and stock is nice. It may not be the last Camaro ever made, but it's definetly the last Camaro made in the 20th century
