What are some specs on the engines that are driving the nascars? I am looking at building one for a new '69 camaro project i just picked up.

Something about a SBC revving at 9K that just inspires a boner.

Well first you start with a lot of money, then for good measure you add a little more money to it. SB.2 block and heads. Forged Pistons. Race gas. Titanium rods, springs, valves, Rockers, and pushrods. Custom BIG headers. Should be a good start.

they are aftermaket blocked 358's with 18 degree heads, belt drive, dry sump oiling, shaft rockers, they are .60 over blocks with 6 inch rods. you can pick up a built crate one for about 23k. i wouldnt reccomend it though. you could build alot more powerfull and cheeper combinations and still have the rpm you want. i have a cheep 355 that revs to 8k for sale if your intrested.

Congrats on making money. I would guess not as much as you think since you can't see a joke about it when you see one. Seriously, Nascar engines are expensive to build. (lots of R&D go into these engines) There are a lot of parts that just can't be had cheap. It take a significant amount of abuse to make an engine turn 9000+ rpms for 500 miles straight.

how cheap could a 327 or 350 be build that would make good power b/t 5000 and 7000 rpms.. i would like a quick fairly high revving sbc motor for a project.. need something reliable that can handle a lil shot of spray too..

not to hijack the thread but what would it take a 350 to make power in that bracket (700-800HP) without boosting it or spraying it?

Actually the 332 i have in my '78 bird raps to 7300 and builds good power all the way. It came out pretty good for my first build up. "SHOULD" dyno somewhere around 475+ after i put these alum heads on.

sorry to hi-jack your thread, i have a fresh 355 that makes good power between 5000-7000 rpms it revs quick and high custom cam and i always shift it at 7500 no probalems and i can spray it too. i used it as a daily driver before freshing up the motor so its relaible. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370347 - i am flexable with the price.

Im currently thinking about a .060 over 400 SBC with a 350 crank

A 377 with SB2.2 heads would be a lot of fun. you can get the heads and intake off ebay. You may need a custom cam to take advantage of the high flowing heads and lower the power band. If nothing else it would have a lot of wow factor when you open the hood.
