Looking at a 1997 (non WS6) Trans Am as a toy/drag car
A4, Traction Control, 93k miles, CASSETTE DECK :eek2: and "appears" to be very clean/nice. I haven't driven it or been inside it, just paused to look at it on my way home from the gym last night..........any suggestions as to a fair price from some low-rent used car dealer?

Well, if its in good condition, I probably wouldn't pay more than 8k-8.5k for it.
I'll be looking for an LT1 car or a 6 cylinder 98-02 in the 6k-8k range in the next month or so... seems most clean non-vert LT1s with average mileage go for around that price range.

With a CASSETTE DECK, that's at least worth 20-25 k.
But seriously, probably between 5-10 k.

Given the shitty-ass run down nature of this particular place, I was contemplating offering 6-7 (depending on if I could talk Ellis into checking the car out first to make sure it is even worth my time).......I haven't had an LT1 in forever, so I am rusty on what to look for/at.
BTW, they are asking either $9,300 or $9,500 for her at this point.

I'd probably start at 7k (since 7k-9.5k is a big gap to bridge) and would make a goal of getting it for under 8k. If you get it for that, I think you get a good enough value. :)

Looking at a ...
Why not buy an already built toy/drag car? ;) You are going to have to spend alot on a LT1 auto to make it "fast"...
I even know where you could get one with a CD/MP3 player :D
I would set your MAX price for that car at $8k. And that is only if it is in damn near perfect shape. Realistically $7k should do it.

Cuz half the fun is building it yourself and the other half is knowing what it is built like/how strong it really it/etc.......the other thing is I wouldn't be trying to have/build the fastest car around or whatever, just want a toy, that I "built" to play with & be consistent & also if it breaks down then I won't be out my DD.

No with it... I figure $14k isn't that much more than $9k. ;) I'd sell my car with everything it has for $14k to a good home...

Because this is the last chance to sell it before I strip it down and make it a pretty much track only/weekend warrior type car. So either I keep it and continue down the path and just buy a nice well kept 3rd gen or LT1 to drive on the street, or I stop now, let someone else take it down the path, and get a C5. ;)

Wow, I just saw a 6-spd NBM 99 (non-WS6) for $12,999 yesterday.......you got a deal it sounds like.

No more than $7000, 97's w/93k on them are certainly not worth $9,000. Look at what you can pick up a 98-02 Z28 for these days. Gas at almost $3/gal, the market for the gas guzzling muscle car should get a lot cheaper as well. $6800 is my final price.

Yeah, I am leaning towards a lower price, but I have to run the VIN on carfax and hopefully get Ellis to look at her if I decide to take the plunge........we shall see.
I appreciate all the info from everyone and feel free to keep it coming.

Usually these lots are by-products of auction houses - in Spokane. You might see if they will give you a copy of the carfax report, if they balk tell them about the *real* bird down the road and you are thinking of dumping your money there. $6,700-$6,900 tops.
Its one big game of poker...

I would guess that 99% of the inventory of these places comes from auctions.......but I have seen some decent to nice cars be sold at auction, depending on the dealership........my ex is in the biz. :)
 at the "real bird" comment ;)
