Default Track Results/Review :: TCI 4000/2.8

Took the car to the track last night. I got three runs in, first time out with my newfound power, the new converter, and the new tires. I've heard anything from 2.2 up to 2.8 STR from these converters so I called TCI with my model number and they verified it was a 2.8 STR converter.

First run
I stalled up to 2500 RPMs and I wasn't used to the car hooking so I only went 75% at first then a full 100% WOT after I got rolling and hooked. This hesitation obviously hurt my times.

Second run
I brake stalled up to 1200 RPMs and tried to put the gas pedal through the firewall when I saw that third amber. The results speak for themselves. Unfortunately my 60' was the only thing remarkable about that pass as the car was doing some funny stuff and losing the extra time I had made up as it went down the track. Should have been a solid 12.0 run IMO.

Last run
I was being rushed, got a horrible burnout, lined up out of the groove, 1500 RPM brake stall and slammed it but slipped-and-gripped two or three times in first gear. Shot that run down the tubes.

On the street I'm very used to the stall now. Took me about a week to get used to it over my 3200 stall, that was mainly due to the increased noise from the exhaust. I barely notice it now. 335rwhp/373rwtq, shifting at 6400 RPMs, my shift extension is right at or slightly above 5200 RPMs. I honestly couldn't be happier with a converter. I love the street/strip mix it offers me and wouldn't want to go any bigger or smaller than I am. Highly recommended to go big and get used to it rather than starting out small and having to change converters. I see easy 11 second timeslips in my future, even in hot and humid TN air, as soon as I get an LS6 intake, UD pulley, and some skinnies on this thing. Thanks TCI.

I was thinking the same thing! 1.53 is DAMN GOOD for 3.42 gears with the hp/tq that you have and the weight. With some skinnies, ls6 intake, pulley, and some weight reduction that thing would easily get down into the mid 11's..

I'm feeling even better about the setup I'm about to try. I was hoping for mid to high 11's but its looking even better now..(233/239 R2, Fast 90/90, TCI 3800, 3.73's, LT's & True Duals, ASP Pulley, Full Suspension, Skinnies/Slicks).. Thanks for posting the results!

Congratulations on some good numbers. I run the same converter and it is great.

That 2nd run is a little strange. Your 60’, 330’, and 1/8 were .2 better and your MPH was good. You were still .2 better at the 1000’ mark but at the ¼ you had lost the .2 but your MPH was a little quicker than the other runs so you did not let off the gas.

How did you loose .2 in the last 320ft of the track without lifting?

Dont know about 2500 RPMs. I pussyfooted it the first run and then I cut a 1.53 60' by launching at lower RPMs and never tried the higher RPMs again.

I wish I knew man, wish I knew. That is what is really perplexing me. Sure would have liked a 12.0-12.1 run.

Most of the time you do not want to stall it up to its limits... When you do this it doesn't really "flash" like it needs to because you already have it stalled up so high. And when it doesnt "flash" properly you won't come out of the hole quite as hard therefor your 60ft times arent that great..

But, say you have a 3800 stall and it "flashes" to 3300rpms.. You would probably want to stall it to 1500rpms or so and then when you stomp it the rpms will "flash" to 3000+ rpms and the power will hit the tires harder..

Does that make sense??

yes, that makes sense to me....

Will try that when i get a chance. Quick t/a, have you logged a run a see if your getting a knock or your loosing timing, running lean, etc. Also, you should consider the the track conditions, maybe the track at the end is "off" a bit?

I have a question though. LEt say your running flat 12'z at the track, there fore you should be running similar numbers from dig on the streets. Well, how do you think you'll be running from a roll? Will i be slower or same?

Sorry for hijacking, your numbers look great!!! these cars are just natural drag cars when equipped with a automatic and a stall.

The only thing I can think of, and what I think it really might be, is my shift points being off a bit from the slightly taller tire (26.1" as opposed to 25.7"). Its enough of a different to make my ABS INOP light come on before the traps, and on that particular run it seemed like it hesitated on the 2-3 shift. It didn't quite hit the limiter but it seemed like it shifted funny, probably due to the higher trans temps on that particular run. Next time I'm at the track I'll be logging all my runs just to see what the car is doing and where it's shifting.

nice 60' on that run. When the weather cools and your DA drops another 1000' you'll see another .1 or .2

A goofed shift will definitely cost you the .2

Is your transcooler up to the task? A 4000 stall needs much more cooling than a 3200.

What was your mph with the 3200?

24,000 gvw, almost keeps it too cool on the street sometimes. Might just need a little more for the track though.

The 3200 was trapping 103 in similar weather before the gears. After the gear swap and before all the other stuff (cam, exhaust, tuning) I ran it in the 1/8th and it went 8.3 @ 83. New converter, cam, headers, true duals, and tuning got me down to that 7.6 @ 88 run.
