Tranny ideas?
Rebuild, buy new one, or switch to TH-400? Is a 3000 stall going to be streetable with a mild cam? I plan to do a forged bottom end and a H/C so I feel that the 3000 stall will be good enough at the strip without losing the streetability. What should I do for the tranny though? Price is kind of limited. Let me know what you guys have done or wish you did.

a built th-400 you will never break with a h/c setup, but if the car is used on the highway the th-400 would kinda suck since it only ahs 3 gears, a built 4l60e can handle head and cam. my 4l60e is being built right now and is having a vig 3200 put in also and right now i am running a 224 cam and will be putting afr 205's on it in a few months i hope. i know of one car that is running a 450hp h/c set-up and a 150 shot of nitrous and his 4l60e has be alive for a year now and not missed a beat.

I've got a 3200 stall on stock internals, and it's streetable. As for how "streetable" of a cam you are getting will help determine what stall you should go with. Think of it all as one package that should take into account the other items. Most folks I know of are going with about a 3500 stall and a medium cam if they want to stay streetable. Everyone told me that a 3200 woudl be too small and I'd want to go bigger, but so far I'm happy with teh 3200 vigilante I have.

Nice, thanks guys. I am also looking into rebuilding the tranny myself. I could hand pick my internals for the 4L60E through TCI. I might try that with a couple of buddies of mine over the winter.

I did some pretty extensive research earlier, and comparisons. If you want a list of things to consider upgrading:
