Brand new block down the drain?

Brand new block down the drain? I have had my new TR short block and TR224 cam for about 2 months and love it? I had to get my family to safety for this crazy hurricane that just hit New Orleans so I to leave the TA behind. The good thing is I have my son and daughter along with my mom and dad and all are safe. Bad thing I know for a fact the TA is under water. Is there anyway after I get home to salvage my car and motor? No jokes fellas this is for real!!

I remember that a twin turbo car got caught in a flood in Houston a couple of years ago. I think that they drained and replaced the oil, pulled the plugs and cranked it over to get the water out...
I believe that the car started with no ill-effects, although it did smoke for a while. I don't think that it was under that much water, so you might have to do some other stuff like draining and refilling the trans and what not and making sure that all of the wiring is as dry as possible.

man i am sorry to hear. like everyone says cars are replaceable family and loved ones are not. i wouldn't worry about the motor fluids were not getting out i dought they are getting in.

Depends on how much water the car is under. If you cant find out for sure, id get it totaled. Im attached to my car, but I wouldnt be able to handle the problems from it. Unless you get it back and build it as a race car.

Glad y'all are okay. If you suspect water in the engine, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START IT. Considering there is a good chance the engine was stopped with an intake or exhaust valve open, your oil is contaminated. If the water was above the gas tank, your fuel is also considered unsafe. If you attempt to crank the engine, you may cause serious damage.
I would go with the insurance deal...let them work it out. Then, if you can, buy it back as salvage and see what you have. You may be able to evacuate the water from the engine and be good to go.

Hell the car is totaled, so buy it from the ins company sell off the good parts and rebuild the motor and throw it in a new hot rod. Basically all you have to do is clean out the crap in it and deglaze the bores (slight rehone to put a crosshatch in the bore) and you should be good to go.

It may or may not need totalling out. If the water is not that high, and or salty from ocean you might be able to just rinse, drain, refill and go. Salty water will kill/corrode the eletrical system, fresh water wont do that much damage from my experiences. Good luck and glad to know your safe.

The car can be salvaged - but you need to decide if it's worth it. From the looks of LA, it's deep underwater which means interior, carpets, electrical motors and all fluids will need to be replaced.

If the car is not damaged from any other debris, I'd try to buy it back from the insurance company.. good opporunity to go with a lightweight painless wiring harness... and an excuse to totally take teh car apart, and the motor too, and go big. I could never sell my car even if that happened to it, I have thoguht about selling several times.. but couldn't do it. Good luck with it, and be glad you are safe.

basically he pulled funding from the levee construction to put into iraq (great results btw) and left it 20% incomplete...send him the bill for that new motor, glad to hear the important things/people are a-ok though
