New to cams. Can someone tell me if this cam will work good on my setup?
Just got this cam and here are the specs:
LOBE SEPERATION = 112.9 CAM DEG Valve overlab = -6
INTAKE
valve open = .9 'BTDC
*CENTERLINE-----> 108.9 'ATDC
valve close = 38.6 'ABDC
DURATION --------> 219.5 CRANK DEG
lobe lift = .33063 IN.
VALVE LIFT-------> .56207 IN.
lobe area = 24.72 IN. * DEG
EXHAUST
valve open = 47.1 'BBDC
*CENTERLINE----> 116.9 'BTDC
valve close = -6.9 'ATDC
DURATION-------> 220.2 CRANK DEG
lobe lift = .32634 IN.
VALVE LIFT-----> .55478 IN.
lobe area = 24.9 IN. * DEG
I only have an slp lm, whisper lid, dephi 85mm maf and yank 2600 stall. motor is a 98 ls1 with about 24K miles. i have mac mids, catted y and nos5177(probably sell the nos) sitting in my apt. how much hp am i looking at if i install this cam with the headers and y? right now im at 290rwhp with my current setup, untuned with 113 a/f ratio.
another question. do i need to change springs and retainers even though motor only has 24K miles? if i have to, what kind of springs and retainers can i use. i'm just starting to get into cams, so please help me out. thanks!

The cam is a 220/220 113 +4. It will work fine with tuning and the other mods on NA it will give you about 25 HP. Yes, change the springs. Several of the sponsors sell spring packages and set you up with springs, retainers, pushrods etc.
Since you are keeping cats, I would suggest more exhaust duration. A 220/224 114 +4 might be better.

Most guys will direct you to the CAM GUIDE sticky at the top of this page.
That cam is pretty small by today's standards. I wouldn't waste the time or money on that cam (personally). I would strongly recommend installing LT Headers first. Then... with a bigger cam you'll definitely need to replace your springs and retainers (pushrods too, for added security).
I also recommend contacting one (at least) of our sponsors. Tell them what your goals are and how much you are willing to spend. Go from there. Good Luck.

i forgot to mention that this is for my daily driven camaro ls1 swapped car. i plan on going to the track maybe 2-3 times a year.
Ragtop 99, since i will be using a catted mac y, this cam wont be a problem right?
what do you mean by instaling it "2 degrees retarded"?

It will give you more top end, you'll need a adjustable timing chain though. That's my opinion though-the cam is so small that it wouldn't hurt to shift the powerband just a tad more. It's totally up to you-don't forget to get some decent springs and pushrods.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! LS6 pushrods are short versions of the stockers you have now and the LS6 springs are not near strong enough to take anything but the very mild ramp cams made by GM performance....

If it was my car-no. This is where the old saying "pay me now or pay me later" goes. Look in the for sale section-you can usually find comp 918's and hardend pushrods cheap.
