Default Should i run 0W-40 yr round??

i currently use M1 10W-30 but was thinking of switching to 0W-40. I live in Fl. and it gets pretty hot here. I've noticed during the summer my oil pressure will fluctuate a lot and sometimes go below 40 psi. Would it be ok to run 0W-40 yr round or should i just run it in the summer???TIA

I would run the M1 5W-40 Truck @ SUV oil instead of the 0W-40. It's more shear stable, has a stronger additive package and has a much higher HTHS (high temp high shear) number. $20 for 5 gal jug at Wallmart. Either grade will work fine in your climate.

I tried 20-50 but it took too long to get oil pressure when I started the motor. Held great pressure when hot. 0-40 sounds good, it should be thin enough for start up and the 40 should have great protection when hot.

I run the mobil 0-40.. never seen teh 5-40 oil in wally world... but hte 0-40 is always there. I've had no problems running it all year round.. I usually go out and start my car a coule times over the winter.. it sits in a carport, so it's outside temp wise. Last winter I started it after it was really cold.. the high temp for a 5 day period was like 10 degrees... started the car ( which turned over real slow at first ) and the oil pressure was there immediately.

Summer time, with the oil level in the middle of the operating range I'm at about 60 + psi when driving around, and at at least 40 at idle.. stokc 01 ls1 oil pump too.

Wear #'s came back good too when I had blackstone test it. I change the oil every 1000 miles.. which works out to about 3 times a year for me, once in the spring before the season, once in the middle of summer, and once at the end of the season, usually aorund the end of october. Way overkill on the change intervals.. blackstone said the oil had about 70% of it's life left LOL, but I'll keep it up anyway... never heard of anyone damaging an engine from changing the oil too much.

I agree, Mobil 1 5w40 is better than their 0w40.

5w40 is better than 0w40, and the reverse can be applied 0w40 is better than 5w30.

Now I got to go find the 5-40 stuff. What does that bottle look lke.. what color cap? It's not one of those new ones that they have out with the advertised mileage on the bottle is it?

I have no idea why you would run 0-w oil in Florida in the summer? You could run straight 30w! I run 20w-50 and get oil pressure right away. I see NO need for a 0w oil unless your in VERY cold temps! Good luck.

I run Amsoil 5W40. That would be even better for you than the Mobile 1 5W40.

Patman I live in Kentucky. It gets pretty cold here in the winter and pretty hot in the summer. Would it be safe to run German Castrol 0w30 year round? Thanks.
