Default How strong is the stock crank?

Just as the post says how strong is the stock crank?I know how hard im on my motor with the bottle but what about the turbo cars that are putiing out big number are they stock? And how hard do you think you can spin one without failure. Is it worth buying a aftermarket crank with a short arm stroke.

I think the stock crank is the strongst part of a stock bottom end. There is forced induction Vette that is doing 790rwhp on the stock crank. However, I'd completely forge the bottom end by 600rwhp, including the crank. Its cheaper to replace the crank than the entire motor.

The stock crank has been shown to handle over 1K RWHP (thanks Harlan ).

However, i don't know that i'd trust it much past 700 rwhp on a regular basis. Personally if i was going to be using a forged crank i would use that as an opportunity to increase the cubes a little

Lingenfelter has used them in their twin turbo packages with very good success. I have heard that they are good for 800-1000 HP. When in doubt, go forged.

they're good for quite a bit of power. i wouldn't go spraying the hell out of it or dumping 30#s of boost on it, but you can get by with many streetable setups on them w/o trouble.

The stock crank has been proven to handle upwards of 1000 hp. I have yet to see or hear of one breaking. Bob

I'm probably making 900+ crank hp with my stock crank. Harlan probably made 1200hp with his but he was worried about it.

Both reference books I have on the LS1/LS6 have nothing but good things to say about the strength of the OEM crank. Just one of many quotes from both books:

"This cast crank is known to consistently handle over 500 hp naturally aspirated and 650 hp turbocharged in street engine usage-a very impressive amount for a cast crank."

I didn't feel like pushing it too much farther. I was shifting mine at 8k rpm with the stock crank. Best of 171 MPH at 3350 lbs.

i'm building my first motor for my new setup (second motor will be NASTY) with a stock crank and a 2 stage carb plate that'll spray 600. if the right situation comes up i might see if she'll take the big shot. i've never heard of or seen a stock crank fail. there's so much other stuff that usually goes before it gets that far down.

Not due to raw power breaking it anyway

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've been hitting my STOCK bottom-end with 575ish rwhp for a while now. IMO, the LSx bottom ends are pretty tough...

Seems like there is alot of postive coments about the stock crank.I just can't see spending the money if the stocker will do. Do you guys think it can take rpms upward of 8500?

that might be a problem tuff, i plan on taking mine to ~8,000rpm and that makes me nervous. i have one of the best engine builders around building mine and doing the research so it don't spit up. should be ok once or twice for 8500 tho.

Im looking to spin big rpms since nitrous likes rpms. With a big arm your going to pretty hard on the lower end.Plus big stroke = torque, nitrous makes torque so i think there is no need for the big stroke.
