Recommendations on Mods??
Hello everyone,
I new to this forum so please forgive me if I didn't post in the right section. This section to me seemed like to more logical choice.
First of all I am simply amazed at the GM Chevy small block ls1, ls2, ls6 & ls7. The power that GM is making out of these engines is nothing short of amazing, let alone the hidden power potential of these powerplants. This is a testiment to the latest advancement in technology.
To start off I have a 2000 Z28 A4. The mods done to it are a Y3000 stall converter, lid and borla exhaust. The Z has been my daily driver for the last 5 years, and during this time I have managed to put nearly 135,000 miles on her. This was mainly due to an 80 hour commute back and forth from my job. I haven't had any problems, the only thing I had to change was a waterpump about a year ago. Other than that it's been running great.
Needless to say I love the car and want to keep her for many more years to come and I am thinking on what would be the most logical course for rebuilding the engine. Without adding a power adder what would be the most hp I can make out of the A4, I'm looking for at least 375-400hp at the wheels. Below I have a list of alternatives to Z, and would like you all's input. Thanks.
1.) Rebuilt ls1 with heads/cam
2.) New LS2 motor (would this be compatible with the pcm of the ls1)
3.) New LS6 motor (same question as above)
I know with any modification I would have to rebuild the tranny, put bigger stall (Y3600) along with 3.73 gears. Along with these modifications would be better suspension, better tires etc...
I'm just curious as to the pros/cons, and feasibilities of each and what would be required to accomplish each one. Thanks for your input, sorry for the long extensive post.

How much money do you have to spend? If it were me and had the money to spend I'd get a forged ls1 short block and a good H/C package, with a ls6 or fast intake and LT's. Do you plan on a turbo or a blower in the future? If so look in to a low compression head. If not go with high compression heads and possibly throw some juice at it later.

another vote for forged 347 with a good set of heads (afr 205) , decent sized cam , and fast intake and tb so if u do decide to go bigger in the future u could still use these components.
