Default G5X4 cam for 408 or another cam?

i will be doing a NA 408 motor soon :

it has :

1- hand ported 205 AFR heads by race-prep 2.05/1.06 flowing 314cfm@0.600 and 327cfm@0.700 and about 210cc intake runner.

2- 11.3 : 1 compression.

3- i will get QTP 1-7/8" race headers with MV collectors.

4- Fast 90mm LSX intake port matched to the heads by race-prep.

5- will get 90mm NW TB.

6- Borla cat back.

7- LS1edit

8- will use stock rockers/pushrods/lifters. <-- do you have any suggestion for that.

.....etc

now i have custom cam from race-prep for this 408 that will spin to 7300rpm it is 263/263 @ 0.050" .663"/.663" 108LSA

shall i stick to this cam or shall i go to a more tame cam like a G5X4 cam?

do you have any suggestion for any other cam?

what do you think?

the X4 is a puny cam compared to the 263 duration you already have.

upgrade the lifters morel, etc since you are turning some niec rpm
by no means should you reuse the stock pushrods. take the stock pushrods and make something out of them... a stickman or just throw them in the trash.

I agree with brandon. The X4 is a big bitch for a 346, and thats what it was designed for, a 346. I would go with the cam that they speced or go with someting similar to vinces cam, it made pretty good numbers.

what kind of pushrods i have to get for this custom cam i mean the one by race-prep : 263/263 @ 0.050" 0.663"/0.663" 108LSA

do i need chromemoly pushrods? do i need to get stock length pushrods?

will the stock rockers work OK with this cam?

i read that you have to do something to the morel lifters before you install them i think it is doing something to the lifter plunger?

thanks.

Call raceprep to see how much the heads were milled, if any, base circle of the cam, and check on the length of the pushrods. The morel's are great lifters too.

The rocker shuold work, many run them to 700rwhp or so...

get a light checking spring and an adjustable pushrod and measure out the correct pushrod length. go hardened chromoly pushrods, and you should be good. the stock rockers SHOULD work okay. but i would upgrade to shaft mounted adjustables.

the stock rockers may be maxed out at around .620 lift. anymore and your living on borrowed time.anyways after spending that much on your new motor. i'd get a set of rockers.

The cam will work fine in your application. The X4 is a derivative of our big block grind from 2001.

As for stock rockers, they are fine as well. 630 lift, and 7500 rpms could not break them

Stock rockers? I wouldn't! Make sure the heads you buy will flow to that rpm!! I have a cam bigger than that that peaks at 6200!!!!!!! My motor was suppose to spin to 7500! Buy everything from one place and make sure they pick out the setup to fit your goal. Other wise everyone will blame the other. Good luck.
