Default Best Brand - 8-Rib Belt

What are you all using for 8-ribs? See any difference in wear or slippage? How about sound?

Any other comments as to availabilty, sizes, etc. welcome.

Gates is the only one with fabric over the cords in the ribs. Thicker, stiffer, stronger, less stretch, reduced harmonics, less slip.

I run a Gates belt and have never had a problem, they do simply look and feel more stout than other brands.

Thanks for all the replies! The poll choice, Gates, matches what the local pro at the auto shop recommends. Even more surprising that he recommends them when his store does not carry them! Nice to find an honest dealer...

Of course I just put a new Goodyear on there, but I'll see how this wears then switch to Gates.

I have a 10 rib setup on my Mustang and had an issue with a Gates belt. I switched to a Goodyear and never had any issues.

Good to know. I had slip issues with my Gates, Gatorback seems good though.

I think the Goodyear is a superior belt based on the look and feel, but they're harder for me to get ahold of. I'm using a Gates belt because I could get it quickly. I don't have an issue with it. If I do, I'll go to Goodyear.

Really? That's kind of hard to argue with. I'll see if O'Reilly will replace mine when it's wasted.

Option other,

The Gates HD belts, they have a green backing on them. They seemed to be the only thing that worked on my buddys stroker mustang with a T-trim spinning to the moon...

That's what I'm using. I've torn up all of the other belts I've tried but part of the cause was alignment. I don't have enough miles to give a definitive answer on the HD belt yet, but so far so good.
