Best thing to do is to find someone with the setup you want, and try it (if they'll let you )
FWIW the Pro 5.0 was really too notchy for me, I haven't tried the Hurst Billet.
If I might suggest giving the stock hurst, and a short stick a try, for me that was the perfect combo

yeah i dont mind notchy but thanks for input, does the pro 5.0 have a cover for itself meaning the little rubber boot thats on the hurst and slp, I am leaning towards the hurst shifter for nastalgic reasons, but the pro 5.0 seems to get a lot of love, any more thoughts?

pro 5.0 here. it has no rubber boot, you have to cut the stock boot

do this, get a short stick and try it on your stock shifter

if its still to swayish for you, buy a pro 5.0

because you'll want the short stick either way

Couldn't agree more. I was going to buy a Pro 5.0, but I bought Lou's short stick first and put it on my stock shifter. When you get rid of the rubber bushing on the bottom of the stock stick, it makes a world of difference. I have not missed 2-3 shift since putting on the short stick.

Yeah, I recently drove a pro 5.0ed fbody, and the imho its much better than the stock shifter, its either in gear or it isnt, it like, clicks into gear, thats what I like, so I bought a pro 5.0 off a user on here and the short stick from afterthoughts auto

i have a slp short shifter right now with a austin qwik stick and i just dont like it i am selling it currently

http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread....550#post410550

but i am stuck, my understanding is the stock hurst shifter option is not the same as their billet shifter but i could be wrong i am leaning towards the pro 5.0 i guess now, but the short sticks are different i guess between the slp/hurst and the pro 5.0 which is why i was just going to get the lous stick now because i have the slp and if i dont like it go to hurst with the lous stick, by the way thanks for all this input

I'm different I guess. I've got the Hurst Billet Plus with the chrome handle and I love it. I don't feal like I'm reaching into the console to shift. The handle is no shorter that the stock one. But the shifter is real tight notchy and the throw's are way shorter. I also have the Hurst White Ball installed. Plus it as the adjustable stops on the mounting plate. So you can bang gears with the rest of them without worrying about tearing up something. Here's a pic

my friend had a 00 ws6 with the factory hurst and a ws6 store short stick and i loved it. ive got a 99 ss and i just bought a pro 5.0 and a short stick but i hate the short stick it almost hits the console going into reverse so i just cut some off my pro 5.0 stick but i still liked the factory hurst with the short stick better

I have a Hurst Billet Plus and is very nice. You should not regret it if you choose this one. I cut about 2" off the stick and rethreaded it to accept the same ****.

i read somewhere that the t56 has internal stops and that you should back out the shifter stops all the way. is this true?

Not for sure on that one. But I threaded mine in some just to take the stress off the Tranny Internals
