Default possible to run 120MPH N/A? (what heads/cam?)

I'm looking to get my full weight T/A to 120MPH (no I'm not stripping it) and I'm looking for a good heads/cam setup to do so. I don't necessarily want a real high peaking setup as its the stock shortblock, but that last thread with the Patriot heads with the extremely flat torque curve really got my attention...

what I'm pretty sure I will be doing already:

Edelbrock LT's
True Duals w/twisters
Ported TB
fuddle converter
UD pullies i guess, everyone says they make a difference

NOTE: I'm not interested in a cam that idles like stock...if I spend that kind of money I want a rumpity idle to go with it. I could care less if it spits gas over my left shoulder when I'm driving it...

any thoughts? Any vendors want to make a suggestion on this? I'm definitely looking for budget oriented so I think AFR's are out, however the new Darts look promising..also heard great things about TEA and PRC...just don't know where to go now

PRC 2.5s and an f-14 should get your there. If not the TREX is always around. I wouldn't run it with the prc's though due to p-v clearance issues. May want to look into the g5x3 as well.

Knockin' on the door. full weight car, only spare tire and jack removed. Nothing else removed and 180 lbs of weight actually added with sfcs, 12 bolt, etc. Not planning to ever strip car.

Z06 MAF and lid with tune going on Friday. Maybe this will be enough to get me there. If not, MSD coils, tubular k-member, carbon fiber drive shaft and electric water pump should do the trick.

My cam rumpitys plenty

Details in sig.

ok now I'm starting to think I'm asking for too little!! What could ohne expect out of a good set of heads (say TEA stage 1 or 1.5) and a matched cam? 125MPH too far fetched?

125mph in a full weight F-Body with an automatic requires about 500 rwhp. Remember, automatics always trap lower.

Your original goal of 120 mph is realistic, but you'll need the best cylinder heads you can afford to do it. Remember, I didn't say the best cylinder heads money could buy, just spend more on the heads because they'll have the biggest impact on getting you the big power. You're going to need over 400 rwhp UNLOCKED to exceed 120mph. Depending on the converter you choose, you'll need to choose parts that make 440 rwhp+ in a 6 speed car.

1/4 mile times soon with my new combination. This 6 speed car should mph well, but it will probably make a crappy ET (stock 3.42 gears and street tires).

For a valid comparison to this thread, I had a full weight 2000 WS6 with an A4, Pro Yank 3600 Extreme converter that ran 11.02 at 122 mph in the 1/4. But to do it, I had to run a 175 shot. Basically, it took 475 rwhp and a TON of nitrous-enhanced torque to get to 122 mph with a full weight WS6 running an automatic.

A lot of the bigger cams like 6800 shift points. Since you don't want to shift high in the rpm band (say 6500), a tighter LSA cam with an earlier intake closing point might do well. Consider a 228/228 110 +2 and maybe tweak it a bit based on whether you need a couple more degrees on the exhaust or intake depending upon your combo.

If you are going with budget heads, TEA and MTI have some pretty affordable heads that make good power.

Probably should look 3.73s. They are good for 1 mph. Make sure you get an efficent converter in the 4000 stall range. The difference of a couple percent in efficency is 10 rwhp eaten by the converter and not put to the ground.

there are plenty of A4 cars trapping 120+ with just a cam or cam/heads...

i went 116 in a full weight car making about 370rw...im making 400/400 unlocked now and in good weather i plan to be right @ the 120 mark on motor.

in a basically full weight f-body 400 unlocked or above seems to be about the sweet spot for 120mph traps as long as you put the power down correctly.

You dont have to have head/cam to get an A4 to trap 120mph. My friend ran 11.20@120 1.53 60ft in his cam only A4 Z28. He has a healthy 4400 converter and some weight reduction but I wouldnt consider it extreme by any means. I now have that cam sitting in my closet waiting to go into my car

I like the fact that you don't have a stupid high stall on that...would you have gone with more if you had to do it all over again?

As people quote their trap speed, please post weight & DA.

BTW, a Vig 3200 stalls higher 3200. You can go 120 on a 3500; but a good 4000 improves the odds.

Predator: Nice mph for a small cam.

With a 3500 stall, 224/226 cam, 3.42 gears, full exhaust and other standard bolton's i went 11.6@118.5 with a 1.63 60' time. Full weight car with the execption of spare tire and jack was removed. Not 120mph, but with a larger cam and good heads 120 would be a breeze. -Jim
