Safe Limit Above the Deck
I am planning to build a 408 or 418 stroker for my truck this winter. It will be NA and 9.5:1 CR. I plan to use an Eagle Crank (4.00" or 4.10"), SCAT H Beam Rods (I'm not sure if they are 6.125 or 6.100") and Mahle 1.105" CH Pistons (-12 CC). I'm not sure what is considered the maximum safe height for the pistons to protrude above the deck. I'm not talking about clearance with the head, I will shoot for .040" TO .050" there.
Who has some thoughts about this? I am building for torque only and I want a durable daily driver.
Thanks,
Steve

I just talked to Brian at SCAT and they do offer both 6.100" and 6.125" Rods. If I can use the 6.100" rods (will the pistons clear the counter weights and reluctor wheel), the deck height is not so much of an issue.
Has anyone built a 418 CID stroker?

I built a 402 with your combo of eagle crank and those pistons from Mahle. I had to pay for balancing the crank twice as the counterweights hit the pistons. The eagle crank is inexpensive for what you get but I think the counterwts might be larger than the more expensive cranks.
