Drag Racing Tech - Mini tub assistance needed

Looking to have my car mini tubbed so I could fit some 335/35/18's in the rear. I live on the West Coast, Nevada to be exact, I want to purchase wolfe racecrafts mini tub kit and have it professionally installed. UNFORTUNATELY, every body shop I have tried to contact in the area are clueless as to what the hell a mini tub is and for the shop that did know wanted to charge me 7K for the job. I know theres gotta be light at the end of the tunnel for me. If I cant find something in the area I am willing to travel to AZ and some places in Southern Cal. Looking for reputable shops only and contact names would help too. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

You dont want a body shop to do it. You need some one who does race cars to understand what you want. The going rate is around $1700.00 and up depending on options. I would try to PM Flame Throwing SS he is over there somewhere.

How many hours of work is involved for an experienced fabricator?

Normally around 30 hours unless you change to the small springs, narrow the rearend, relocate the control arms etc.

My car is not minitubbed... But I think it was around 1500.00 mark or so from brian when I talked about having it done. I will one day, its just not that time yet :)

It's very time consuming...I did mine myself and have a lot of hours in them....way more than usual because it was the first one I have done. Pics are in sig. I could see this costing 1500+ if you were going to have somebody do it for you as it really takes a long time.

I'm doin it myself too! I just don't have that kind of cash to have someone else do it just to save some time. Cars not comin out this year anyways. I have all the time in the world!

I was also thinking of a mini tub to fit 335/18's. Can this be done and still retain the back seat and side panels??

You can mini tub it and use a narrower tub, but most people go 16" from the fender lip which "will" run into the plastic panel and rear seat.

I am unscrewing the lower brackets and upper latch and cutting some of the metal support off my rear seat so it will fit. The bottom seat cushions are no problem to fit after a mini tub.

One thing though is you'll end up cutting out the outer seat belt bolt hole and also the upper seat belt mount and seat latch area.

So it will require some more fab work to retain and reuse the stock belts, you can mount the seat by using some L brackets in the back and some flat strips on the bottom, one side screws into the seat and one side screws into the body panel which will hold it on.

You could also weld the tabs to the seat so it is more hidden, being covered by the fabric and you would only see the small part of the bracket that gets screwed into the body panel maybe 1/4 - 1/2, however much you need to get under there and get a screw in.

I can't believe it is so much these days to do stuff like this.

Guess I kinda feel bad for you when I am doing my own myself and have only spent about 120 bucks, which includes the tubs and metal ha-ha.

Along with what mad mad said, it is about a 30 hour one man job. I have about 15 hours into mine and have to weld the plate on the frame, tack in and seal the tubs and finish trim/grind everything after it is welded/ mounted. so I figure it will take me about 25 hours total.

It is just a time consuming job, now if you have a plasma cutter, some fancy tools and an extra set of hands I could see it getting knocked out in two days easy.

But like me, measure things like 10x each because you're compulsive and picky and then mark it all out, use a sawzaw to cut stuff out then use an angle grinder to have everything perfect with the cut lines.

With stuff like this you always want to cut it short the first time and trim trim trim till you get it to fit just right.

Like people say do it right the first time, or you'll be known as the guy with the fast car that looks like shit.

Yes. With that exact setup, I have only 3/4" between the tire and the lower control arm. You will also have to stretch the metal in front of the wheel.

That's why I am relocating the LCA's because I want my tire to tuck in and be centered in the tub.

Seems like a lot of work to use bigger tubs then not be able to use an inch or two because the tire hits the LCA.

You fit the 315 60 15 by only trimming the forward side of the fender lip?

I am deciding between running a 30x10.5 or 315 60 15.

More leaning towards the 315 60 15 because I plan to drive my car often on the street.

Before the tub, I could not get the 28"W slick to fit, because it hit the inner metal. It doesn't now.

I fit the 315 by adjusting the LCA's back a little, trimming the metal forward and rearward of the tire, (metal in front, plastic in rear). 3" off each side of the rear end.

I'll take some pics, after I am done racing for the year.
