is something wrong with my car (bogging/slow)?
tonight i was following my buddy who drives a 2003 acura rsx type s and we were stopped at a corner. when we turned he punched it so i turned and did the same in my 98 T/A, well my car spun the tires pretty badly and then caught and shifted up into second, well what im worried about is that i didnt start catching him until my car hit about 4500rpm then i started reeling him back in. i know that my T/A makes alot of its power at about 4k and above, and his makes it's power at like 6500-7000rpm, is it just because my car bogged down a little when it shifted from 1st to 2nd, or is my car just slow?? it feels like it pulls pretty strong, but that worried me a little. what do you guys think.

Well the type s is rated at 200hp and weighs i think around the nature of 2780lbs dry, so say 2980-3000 w/a driver and a lil fuel, where as your car weighs about 3700 w/you in it most likely. So if he was already on his way while you were sliding he was probably already in his usuable powerrange while you were just reaching yours, as long as you started pulling/catching up after about 4k i'd say your good, dont forget the ls1 makes most of the power up higher than the lt1's.

at what rpm did your car shift from 1st to 2nd? if it shifted at a lower rpm, it might have bogged a little in 2nd gear until it got up in the rpms. Spinning the tires in first is going to screw things up when you shift to 2nd as well though. If you would have had solid traction in 1st the entire power band, then shifted to 2nd, I'm sure you would have been fine. You didn't have traction control on did you?

no traction control was off, and the car slid a little sideways when i went around the corner, then it hooked, then it shifted, then it felt like it was not pulling very hard at all, then it started pulling again once i hit about 43 or 4400rpm. but i wasnt reeling him in that hard. but then again, he hit his brakes at about 4800rpm too, so i never got any higher in the band than that. also i had an extra guy in the car that weighs about 190lbs, and the other guy was by himself.
I raced the guy a while back from a dead stop and i pulled him by about 2 cars at the top of first gear, then it just kind of flattened out, and i didnt pull him anymore when my car shifted into second, but once the rpms raised up to about 4 i started pulling him slightly again. i assume that's normal?? is there a dead spot when our cars shift from 1st to 2nd in the A4's?? i was just worried something was wrong, because i thought i should have pulled him alot harder than that.

seems a little odd to me....maybe it was just some fluke. every now and then I don't think my car is running as hard as it should, and other times it surprises me with how hard it pulls. If the car is shifting from 1st to 2nd at WOT, it seems to me like it shouldn't take long at all before you're in the 4k rpm range.

maybe it was the fact that he got a head start on me because he took the corner before me, and his car was making all of its power just as mine was shifting into second and dropping rpm. it just doesnt seem like my car is running poorly, i just thought that i should have pulled him in pretty hard even though the rpms werent really high. maybe i am underestimating his car.

I know the bog he is describing. Happened to me the other night.
I gave it sufficient gas to quickly accelerate, and then it bogged, then seemed to catch on.
Had me worried to. Hasn't happened since though. Odd
