there is no reason to do this.

Look at the numbers on both of my 98's.

The only reason you would need or want to go to a 99-02 motor is if you wanted to go bigger, like a 383, 402, 427 or whatever, because the 98' block cant be bored to much

the early ls1 engines had a problem with an oil passage in the back on the block. that once u started getting high in the HP it would start to affect the perfomance and possibly jack your motor up. it was in an article i read out of GM high performance or a chevy mag, dont remember which one it was. i'll have to go home and find the mag article. but i'll repost it tonight when i get home.

I have heard about that, but how high in hp are you talking about?

about 450-500 hp, N/A of course. And the 98-00 intakes burn oil also. so thats why i would want to transplant an 01 into the bay.

I would think there are better ways to fix those problems than transplanting a new engine, especially the intake... if you are planning on pushing that much power you are going to want a bigger intake manifold anyway...

Don't waste the money to do that, unless your '98 engine is shot and you get a killer deal on an 01+ longblock.

the 98-99 block issue you're referring to deals with oil returning to the oil pan from the top end of the motor. horsepower has nothing to do with it, engine speed (rpm) is the issue. the pre-00 blocks have 2 small holes in the back of the block for return, the 00+ have a much larger area. search a little and you might find a picture illistrating this. unless you plan on spinning 6700+, there is no need to change engines. if you're that upset over it, but an 01+.
