Default 5.3L heads or LS6 Heads on a 5.3L?????

I am wanting to change my heads on my 04 5.3L. Should I go with the 5.3L and just have them p and p or should I step up to the LS6 heads and have them milled down to keep the same compression ratio and have them p and p?

Which will give me more power with a mild cam?

Thanks guys!

The LS6 head is all around better. Intake and exhaust side. Depends on what you want to spend. The LS6 casting is about $600 more than the 5.3. Check your pm.

There is a good book entitled, How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V8' s. You can but it for $20 and it gives alot of information about building horsepower in different applications. To answer your question, both the 5.3 and the LS6 heads would give you added HP more so if ported and polished. Keep in mind that other things need to be changed in order for the heads to really make a differnce/perform to their capabilties, such as a good cam, air-box, and exhaust system to name a few. Do some research and make the best decision for your application.
