Default over boost

Any idea why my my car is over boosting. It is a front mount turbo. I had it running at 10 psi but today when I smashed the gas it ran up to 17 psi before I backed off. It has happened 3 times now tonight. Is it the wastegate maybe.

I hope you have a good bottom end! If you see the boost rising like that, I would back out of it until you get the problem corrected, as a 10 psi tune is going to be far from a 17 psi tune. Bob

I am running a eboost controller.I even tried unhooking it and letting it run just on the 7 pound spring no luck.I have been backing out now that I have noticed this problem. How can I check my wastegate to see if it is working?I know the bov is working it is a 50mm trial. The boost reference come off the turbo outlet is this the right place or what?

If you have run race gas in the past or are running race gas and the WG doesnt have a race gas compatible valve and bushing then it may be sticking shut.

i forget if this was hellraiser or armageddon but they had an eboost and didnt adjust the setting for overboost so when they reached a certain psi the eboost read it as overboost and cut it in half.that maybe your problem.

Pull the WG off. Pull the top cover off (becareful it will be spring loaded). Once you get it open take the spring off and see if the valve moves freely. Sounds like you have stuck wastegate.

Guys, he said he pulled the references off the WG. That means its solely working off spring pressure. If it doesn't open you have a stuck valve or stem.

It is not in the controller it has to be the wastegate. If I take my air compresser and run 10 psi to the WG it should open right.

Best thing to do is pull it apart. Don't take any chances.

Does you WG dump to the atmosphere? If it does and you don't hear it opening up then your WG is the problem.
