100 Octane (Unleaded) in So Cal?
Just like the title says, where can I find 100 Octane, unleaded in So Cal? My engine pings like crazy (when I get on it) and don't have 100 (need to get the timing reduced and a new t-stat) and I would like to start racing it locally. I usually race it in Vegas (where 100 is obtainable at about 75% of the Rebel stations out there.... I don't want to use octane booster... I've had good results with unleaded racing fuel mixed in with 91.

A select few 76 stations have it out of the pump. I know 2 over in santa monica area sell it. May try to go to 76 website to see if they list all the local locations that carry it. Most race shops sell it by 5 gallon drums also.

Why do you have a pinging problem, there is nothing in your sig. that makes me think you need 100 octane, has it been tuned with just the Hyper? I can likely solve your pinging problem for less than a few weeks worth of race gas....just a thought, give us a call or drop an e-mail and we can take care of it.

Do you have a descreened or ported MAF / MAF ends? That may be your problem, if you do swap it out with a stock MAF. In many cars a descreened or ported MAF can cause a very very lean condition, especially in combination with hypertech tuning.
Talk to race prep or if you have a friend at a dealership have them reflash your VCM to get rid of that hypertech crap.

76 station in yorba linda off imperial hwy. and also the 76 station in irvine/n.b area near the uci backbay area.
like stated above the pinging is more than likely a tuning issue. save your money on the gas and use it for a good tune, you'll be a lot happier and so will the car.

I took out the Hypertech tune last night and it ran very smoothly up until about 5,000 RPMs (used to start pinging at 4,300ish) then it went CRAZY - pinging WAY more than it did when the tune was still in... I guess a tune's my only option now

Bah... Just find a guy who has HPTuners and will tweak it for you. I wouldn't go get an all out full blown tune. I generally fix **** like that for donations or like $50, but I don't have HP Tuners for 2000, just 98,99,and 01.

While it was a LOT of money, they did a good job. I'm satisfied with their work and if I decide to do more bolt-ons, they'll tune it for less since most of the hard work's already done... no more pinging - smooth torque all the way up to 6k
