Default What cam for a 408 in my heavy *** truck?

I will be putting a forged 408 in my truck in the next month or so after I get all the parts together and I dont realyl know where to start on choosing a cam. There arent many truck guys running 408's so I figured I would have a better chance of getting a good recommendation over here. I will be spraying on this motor too so I need something that will react decently well with the nitrous on. I have all the supporting mods in my sig. I want something with a nice lopey idle and somethin gthat is going to give me good midrange and have good power when the converter is locked so it doesnt feel like the motor is lugging down all the time.

Thanks

225/225 i too small Im looking for something in th emid to low 230 range on a 112lsa or so. I want lope too and that cam would be swallowed whole by a 408. If I was going to go with that I would just keep my cam that I have now. Second choice? Or I could jsut say f**k it and put a t-rex in it.

I would say something in the low 240's with around 615 lift on a 112lsa. That way you'll get some lope but it will still drive nice too

G5X2, I've seen it in a 408 and that is an awsome trq monster below the curve with that cam. There is actualy a sale on them right now.

Why are you asking for advice on for your truck on a car site? MS3 is
237/242, .603"/.609", 113 LSA It's pretty much the equivileant(sp?) of the T-rex but on a better LSA to help idle. But with a 408 a T-rex is somewhat mild so that'd be a good choice too.

The only problem is that Im afraid of going to big and the engine not making enough power when the tc is locked and Im cruising down the highway. I like the specs on the ms3.

If people are putting T-rex's and MS3s in a 346ci, you'll be fine with your 408 motor.

A 408, because of it's CI is naturally going to create low down torque, so that really shouldn't factor in your equation and the power points on those cams will be lowered with the extra CI, I think it'd be a good choice.

Another problem is I do tow 6000 punds or so occasionally so I would ike to have something decently powerful down low so it doesnt bog down all the time but if need be I can just get my buddy with a cummins to pull the trailer I guess. The MS3 should have a good idle and I think Allen can handle tuning it. Anybody else got nay suggestions.

Cant thats where the extra kick is stored. Sub boxes are in the way for under the rear seat mounting of it.

I say you'd be fine, if I have no problem crusing locked up in my 4200 lb truck with a 4.8 and TR224 @ 1500 or so RPMs, you shouldn't with a 408 at all. Big difference.

Gotcha! I dont' know if you have a center console or not, but if you don't I've always thought it'd be cool to have the bottle on top of the transmissin tunnel hump. Quck access to opening and closing, it'd also look cool too. Also, you still going with 200 shot or so? You'd better with an all forged 408. You're going to progress the shot right?

Im thinkin 225-250 shot. The first stage will be my ny-trex kit with a 150 wet shot then a second stage dry shot with 75-100. I will spray 150 out of the hole and then when I hit second gear turn the second stage on. I am going to run a window switch so I dont fry my itty bitty 60e. It has 2 grand of hard parts in it so Im hoping it will hold up fine. Im hoping for 500hp on motor alone and traction will only be the push of a button away.
