1998 WS6 upgrade question
What would be a good upgrade for a stock WS6? Without spending a boat load what should I do first?

I picked up a 2001 Z28 Camaro a week or so ago. I'm already thiking about mods. I was thinking the SLP CAI would be a good first mod. Should I get the SLP CAI as my first mod, or look for something else? The CAI is $300, so it's not cheap either.

Any input would be great. Thanks.

whisper lid + k&n was my first mod. made a noticable difference. and cheaper than slp. my suggestion is: don't buy anything affiliated with slp because it is mediocre products that are overpriced. try www.thunderracing.com and search for induction stuff...

just buy a lid and do the free cold air mod....it'll save about 2 bills that you could put toward a cat back or gas ...... you could just save the 200 for headers and duals......and just get a cutout for now and u might as well get a ported throtle body or a pulley while your at it.....that'll pretty much eat up the 300 and a saturday...but you will probably pick up 15-20hp just what i think -tim-

Kman: whisper is the brand. and i bought the slp slowpac as a newbie, it prompted me to start the newbie mistakes thread (link in the FAQ) if that tells you anything.

NO on the SLP CAI. Its not a true ram air system, others like the Super Sucker Ram Air (SSRA) and the Fast Toys Ram Air (FTRA) are. So go with one of those two instead. Also go with a lid, I went with the Texas Speed and Performance lid and could not be happier. Just go with the lid that you like the most since they all perform about the same. For a filter I would just stick with the paper ones, the K&N will not give you much if any increase in HP. The K&N also allows more dirt to pass through and you also run the risk of over oiling it when you go to clean it. I am using the Fram filters and they work great, nothing gets by them.
jrp's sticky has a ton of info - it should he you out a lot.

the free ram air and the other free mods are covered there.yes you can K&N filters at most parts stores(go easy on the filter oil, your MAF sensor will thank you). some say the smooth bellows or fernco is mostly an appearance mod,its a judgement call i guess.
as for a lid check out the sponsors ----> texas speed, MTI, LM performance(whisper) and SLP are options, i like my plain black MTI one myself

just thought I'd ad my 2 cents. even though all lids perform the same they don't all fit the same. A got the slp lid cause I liked the logo on the lid. Looks don't do s*^t for fitment though. It's a pain in the rear too when you do the home depot smooth bellow mod. I'll never buy anything slp again.
