Default yet another oil thread (weather related)

i live in west texas and it doesnt get very cold in the winter. Maybe it'll drop below freezing, but if it does it may only be a few days a year, and only overnight. I'm at 4000 ft elevation, if it matters, and i tried doing a search but still wasnt sure what to use for the weather and such. I was thinking about trying mobile 1 5w40 but is this fine for the conditions?

Also the car sees plenty of traffic, it is a daily driver, but i also take it out drag racing on the weekend.

and what type of filter do you guys use?

Mobil 1 5w 30 "blue cap" good enough for the corvette off the showroom floor. I live in the same area you do and that is what I have always used. Use the AC delco filter, others will tell you different but stick to OEM on this it pays of in the long run. Knock on wood never had a problem.

The 5w40 will be an excellent choice for your conditions, much better than 5w30.

Listen to Patman he knows. Also use the K&N long filter HP2006. They flow very well, much better than OEM. You want that additional flow when your racing.

I use 0w30 and I'm wondering if it's good for winter? I used it during summer and it was perfect.
