Just a few 6.0 Iron Block Questions I'm curious about any production differences between years on the 6.0 Iron Block. Anyone have any information on the different castings? I'm looking to build an engine for an FI project. I'm also curious who sales them. I've checked sponsor web pages, but no one has prices listed for bare blocks.

Look for an 01 or later block. The 00 and earlier years had a longer/different crank. Try to find a used low mile block. That way it has been heat cycled. SDPC sells new iron blocks and are a sponsor here.

Interesting... I figured it'd be best to go with a new block rather than a used one. Tell me about the advantage to a "heat cycled" block. LS cranks work for 2000 and up, right?

By getting a heat cycled block it tends to distort less after boring than a new block. Not a huge issue, but why not save some cash if you can find a good used block. The 2001 and up can use the ls crank without any issues.

Makes sense to me... I'll keep an eye out for a good used block. Anyone have a list of casting numbers for 2001+ blocks? I've found a few, but want to make sure I have everything covered. I called the Chevy place to get a quote on 12551354, but they said there wasn't a price listed for that part number. I did another quick search and found 12551364, so I'm not sure which is correct. Any help would be appreciated.
