Default LT1 T56 with a LS1 engine possible?

I'm planning a trans swap (A4 to M6) and it's difficult like hell to find a T56 for my LS1 engine.
I see a lot of LT1 manual transmission but I was told that they don't fit the LS1 engine.

Why?

Is it enough to use a LS1 bellhousing or is it a totally different transmission?
I know the hydraulic is different but the old style should be ok (I think...)

By the way: if you have one included all the parts for the swap please PM me.
Price is not an issue if the tranny is in good conditions.

Thanks - Stefano

Just wait and get an LS1 T56. It will save many headaches in the long run. I have seen many used in good condition LS1 T56 for $800-$1000. Keep looking and you will find. BTW the T56 will make you slower on the track. Get a 2800-3500 stall for that A4.

It's not for the track: here it's more autocrossing and speeding on the German highways (=Autobahn = no speed limits).
I also drove stick during 15 years and since I have this automaitc TA I badly miss it

This of getting the tranny is the hardest thing: I have the garage, the lift, the tools, the M6 program for the PCM ready on my laptop... only the tranny is missing!

I can have a 100% complete swap kit included Spec clutch and flywheel from a 99 Camaro with 40'000 miles on it for $2700, included crate and ARP flywheel bolts, how does it sounds?
A LT1 tranny would be cheaper but this way it will be just fine...
