Flashing a "New/Blank" LS1 PCM
Let's say I buy a brand new LS1 PCM from the dealer that doesn't have a file in it, it's blank. Can I flash a stock 2002 F-Body file into it by using my HP Tuners?
Do I disable the VATS?
I asked a simliar question on the HP Tuners board but that question was about flashing a 1999 computer to a 2002 file.

No! It must first have a BIN file flashed to it. The dealer should be able to flash your VIN onto the brand new ECM (that is what we did). I speak from experience as I tried to flash a brand new ECM for a friend, but was unable. HPT couldn't identify the config codes to determine if I had access to read/write to the ECM. To use HPT, you need to have the config files flashed to the ECM for compatibility. Otherwise anyone would be able to flash to any ECM regardless of support.

Yeah, it will need to be in a vehicle to use Tech II (through the OBD-IIport) to flash it ... at least that is how my local dealer do it. The good thing is you can use an F-body and swap it out in like a minute.

Can a dealership just flash the PCM or does it need to be in a car and flashed through the OBD port?
Does a dealer use a Tech 2 to flash?

I do this all the time, I use efilive to put in any program into a "blank" pcm. The new ones from the dealer and any other one i use normally dont have any calibration info in them that is useable, So All you do is do a full rewrite of the pcm with a valid program or os and you are set. You dont need a tech 2 or any other scanner/ programer/ adapter. Just my efilive and im all set.
