Dynamometer Results & Comparisons - New to LS1. What to expect?

Ok I got a 2001 motor with 224/224 .581 112LSA cam, 918 springs ported throttle body, 3.5 inch intake, 160 thermostat, 2 1/2 inch X-piped dual exhaust after stock 01 exhaust manifold. alum. flywheel. What should I expect from a dyno run? (I was thinking 350rwhp) approx. how much will I gain from tunning? Are the stock exhaust manifolds holding me back with the mods I have. Any advice is welcome.

id say 355 rwhp and yes those manifolds are holding you back big time as well as the cats a tune is a necessity when you have a cam

Thanks. I don't have cats.

Seems like a pretty fair number to me for the HP, long tubes and 3" exhaust would help. Definately get it tuned!!

3" isnt needed for a 224 cam

Hi Todd. How's the bi-plane doing? :)
I'm thinking of going with a AFR heads/cam + LG headers for the Z06 and using the LS6 heads+porting with a better cam on the LS1-Rx7.
You should be making more power with headers, tuning and no cats.

I saw you should be near 360rwhp. The '01 manifolds flow decent, but headers would definately compliment the cam. Was is a 3.5" intake? Never heard of it said like that..

2 1/5 doesn't hurt either.
it's a cone filter with a 90degree plastic elbow that goes into the TB. 3.5inches = 89mm
Todd...didnt you have the same cam as luke? i could have sworn it was a thunder racing with 114 lsa, not 112.

Well, for your info I used to run Lunati 55006 224/224 .560/.560 112CL and it helped me,but thanks for your input anyway.

I have .581 on 112, Luke has .561 on 114. 3 inch might just be a little too loud and wouldn't dual 2.5 help on torque and respond some? I don't have a OBD II plug on my car so does that mean I have to send my PCM out to have it tuned? Can some one explain to me how the LS1 PCM is tuned and how do the tuning programs out there work. I am confused as to what you can and can not do with the software and how you purchase it. I am not planing to do anymore mods. to the motor and I think what I am doing is not that radical at all so can I just do a mail tune? If so any recommendations?

Well if I can get around 370rwhp and good torque with it I will be happy. I need the motor to last and be bullet proof so I thought about leaving the exhaust manifolds on just to choke the motor a little so it won't push too much power for its own good. (I know it sounds wacked but I can not afford to break anything on the motor.)

360 +. Thunder makes the tr224 on a 112 and a 114 lsa. :)

of course it helped you if you went from a catback to 3" duals, thats a given dude. To say that 3" is better than 2.5" on a stock cube, stock headed, small cam car ? Thats asinine, so thanks for YOUR input

Every (decent) exhaust setup wth stock cubes uses a 3" y-pipe. It's not overkill, it's the perfect size. 1 3/4 headers to 3" Y with a cutout is a nearly perfect exhaust setup, second only to TD's.
You should see about 350-360 through the stock manifolds. Upwards of 390-400 w/long tubes/3" Y/cutout.

Well instead of 2.5 inch mandrel I am just gona do 3 crush bend, cheap and effective. Ok as long I can have 350 to start I am happy. Headers can always go on later after I hunt down some BBk long tubes.

For long tubes get QTP's (sponson over there ------->) or Kooks, or go home.
Does BBK even make headers for these cars?

You misunderstood me blu. I meant 3" duals, not a 3" ypipe. From my understanding, a single 4" is equal to 2.5" duals, so anymore then that on the stock 346 isnt exactly needed

BBk fox body long tube with LS1 header flanges works perfect for RX7. If I run with stock manifolds and stock tune for now would I hurt the motor? I have heard peopel run 224 cam with out any tune at all.

I doubt you'll hurt anything, but the car may be somewhat difficult to drive.

What do you mean by difficult to drive?

Bucking at low RPM's, misfire codes, possibly running rich. Personally i would just spend the extra cash and get the tune, it'll be worth it.

Well I got the exhaust done with dual 3 inch crush bend with X pipe. The exhaust is not that loud but just resonates a LOT. I know it is too late but would dual 2 1/2 do the same? Should I throw on some glass packs, would they take care of the low frquency resonance? It runs great so far for not reving over 4,000rpm. ( I don't want to wind it out with out a tune.)
