Go with a lid and FTRA or SSRA.

Why do that. there's nothing wrong w/ the fipk kit. I have one and love it. I've only had to clean my filter once in a year. You get more surface area with it and it comes with the smooth bellows also. I think the results would be about the same with both kits tho.
