Default Corvette or Trans Am... advice wanted

Okay I have narrowed down my next vehicle wants to a 01-02 T/A WS6 or a 99-00 FRC Corvette. Now my only real problem is coming down to pricing of my new vehicle...and the power I want from one. I have wanted a Vette for as long as I can remember, but now having found out that the LS1 block in the C5, WS6 and Z28 all is the same block with no difference whatsoever in power output...it may be wiser for me at my younger age to still get a Trans Am before I get a Corvette and maybe hold off until I could get a C6 Z06 later in life hehe.

What is the difference between the LS1 motor in these 2 vehicles, people keep telling me that it's the same block, WS6 just has ram-air which adds no noticable horsepower difference to 320bhp, but the Vette is rated at 345bhp...so what exactly is true here...???

Either one I get would be a color I want, a 6 speed manual, same mileage area etc. I'm a fan of a Vette over a T/A but it could make more sense at this point to own a cheaper version of the LS1 that I crave.

Any help, advice, feedback, owners of each vehicle, I welcome all comments and appreciate them greatly! Thanks so much!

GM deceived everyone a little bit by underrating the spec sheet of the fbody cars so as not to cannabalize sales of the Vette.

The power output is nominally the same. The Vette spec is more accurate. Most LS1s will produce 345-350 flywheel hp.

If all you care about is power, then get the T/A (or Camaro for that matter). The Corvette will only give you the "stigma" and better handling/braking.

Do yourself a favor and read the sticky's (yellow things at the top of the page) before you post anymore. You will answer a lot of the questions you have or may have, and you will learn things you never thought to ask.

Zymosis I'm LMAO at your signature....

I read everything thanks, I'm on several forums. I find it easier to ask specific questions than search for hours on end for one tiny piece of informatio sometimes, even if it does **** off some of the vet forum users =) muhahhaa! thanks though for the info

so a stock C5 would outrun a stock trans am I take it, due to being lighter and more accurate power ratings...I'm not so worried about car performance right now. I have an SRT-4 I use for that currently heh...now I'm looking for a fun car to enjoy and mod tastefully and lightly for quite a while. Exhaust, intake, headers...rims, tires, small things of the sort.

If it's a cheap LS1 that you want look no further than a Z28.

You most certainly did not. Nor did you search for the information. I can garuntee a 15 second search would have yielded your answer faster than someone would reply. You may say that you have read it, but if you did you would have not needed to ask one of the most well known things about f-body's and corvettes. Whether it makes me angry or not is not the point. You basically said you asked so it would be faster, it's not.

Typically yes it would, because it's lighter. However if you went from a dead stop to say 100mph it would be close because the vette has IRS which isn't very good for launching whereas the f-body has a solid axle. Corvette will win on top end street races or roll races and of course in autoxing.

If all you need is 2 seats, by all means, get the Vette. If you have to have the back seat or more room, get the Transam. I go around with my backseat folded down and even though it's then only a 2 seater, I have a lot of room for my other interests (golf, RC aircraft, guitars, etc.).

If you have the money and you are happy with 2 seats, get the vette. That's a no brainer in my opinion. The vette is faster in every aspect. (Assuming you had to drivers race the 2 cars the same exact way) Also, you will get a lot of looks. I have driven a couple. They are fun to drive and the gauges are pretty cool. Oh yeah, and it's a vette!

I'd say the race between the 2 would be close, the vette loses more power to the wheels from teh flywheel than the fbody's because of their IRS, but i'd get a vette in a heartbeat

I think the looks of any firebird, especially Trans Ams and WS6's look better then corvettes. They look meaner I think, mainly because they are larger and I like the looks of the nose and rear better. I was just behind a black C5 vette in my WS6 and it looked as if my car could eat that vette up.

If your on a budget then let's see. F-body room for 4 (somewhat), same power, cheaper insurance, cheaper taxes, and cheaper payment. Of course with the vette you can say I got a vette and then get smoked by a bolt-on fbody b/c you can't afford any mods. That being said I would still own a vette if could afford one and had no kids.
IMHO the firebirds are closer to the vette in appearance than camaro's. I made my statement earlier just see how many people would chime in. Sorry to get in your thread like that.
