Drag Racing Results - G5X-4/AFR205's = 9.91@133(1.246)
The Juggernaut
10-08-2005, 01:08 PM
Hi Kids, remember me? :)
I threw some AFR 205's (out of the box, flowed 3 cfm than what they claim)
memorial day weekend.Picked up .3 and 3mph just like it should.
It wasn't quite 60' like I would have figured(after a long suspension/tire
battle I had because I cut the rear springs)Once I put the hook back in
it, it was cutting 1.33-1.34's.So I take it to Dan Bills @ FLP and he finds
a bunch of power right where the converter flashes and a little up top.
I drop the 2 step down (to make sure it doesn't stand up)and gradually
come back to where I was. Got down to a 1.31.
I knew the killer air was rolling in yesterday, so off to the track I go.
1st hit off the trailer was-
60'-1.265
330'-4.025
1/8th-6.316
MPH-106.64
1000'-8.311
1/4-10.007
MPH-132.38
I was happy but bummed.I couldn't believe the 60' was that good but mad
because I pulled a 1.26 and didn't go 9's.
Next pass a was a tad low on fuel(hiccuped in 2nd gear)
10.07@131
put fuel in hot lapped it
10.01@132
So now it's crunch time.I know I need more MPH to go 9's so I pull the door
panels and dash pad. Let the car cool down and bring it around.
Put it up on the 2 step and let it fly
60'-1.246 (Hi Joe Overton) :)
330-3.971
1/8th-6.246
MPH-107.67
1000'-8.231
1/4-9.919
MPH-133.18
DA was +55
car weighed about 2800#
Now I'm gonna gut the car because me and Magnus are going to duke it out
OCT 22 for N/A stock bottom end title. :engarde:

Congrats on the times! Why the 205's and not the 225's?
If I ran 225's I'd have to flycut the pistons, I didn't want to do that.
I bought them because of the long wait for them, and didn't plan
on putting them on this motor.I found out I didn't have to fly cut, so I put them on.
When I did the heads,I cut the rear springs to lower it down.I had problems
hooking, so I didn't know if it was the power from the heads or the
new suspension angle(that's why I hate doing more than 1 thing at a time)
It ended up being mainly that the sidewalls on my tires were shot, but
I redid the suspension 3 times before I figured that out.(My angle finder got a work out)LOL

The stock shortblock will take an unbelieveable amount of abuse.
I have about 900 dragstrip passes and about 100 dynos passes passes on it at RPMS that make normal people cringe.I've even put 10 bottles of juice though it.

Louis if you suport them both equaly why set one up to blow the other away and make it seem like they have the same combo when he fails? You realy now how to burn someone that put your G5 cams on the map....makes sence to me.
Louis
10-12-2005, 10:13 AM
Listen, Here is the deal.
Sean asked me months ago if the AFR 205s would fit with his cam if they were milled, or if he could just bolt them on in stock AFR configuration. I simply told him that if he had the heads laying around, and wanted to bolt them on, he could. Thats what he did. This was months ago.
About 4 weeks ago, Keith asked me to put together a combo with AFRs, and a no holds barred cam. Keith has been trying to get me to learn to use HP Tuners, so we worked out a deal that I would provide the heads, cam, and installation in return for an LSx Hp tuners lesson and key. Seems fair to me.
At this point, Keith and Sean had no plans to race, as far as I knew.
I had not heard from sean in a few months regarding how his AFR/X4 setup went, or if that ever materialized. We ALL know how he keeps his performance and new mods under wraps. You guys know how long he had run a 9 second nitrous pass, before he ever posted? A LONG time
I never set sean up for failure, I just built keith a combo that I thought would work well for him. That is all. Nothing more, nothing less. You see, I never had an ounce of input on seans combo, save for the cam setup. That is all we ever did, cam only. Look at his track record. X2, X3, X4.
When I found out they were racing, I didnt know what to do. OK, thats great, 2 Heads/cam cars are racing. I already had keiths setup in the works, cam was complete, heads were on their way, and everything else was slated for install.
The little info I had heard about Sean was not much. I read somewhere he was going to aluminum rods, and he contacted me about a solid roller grind and if box stock AFRs would fit with his cam. That is it.1 maybe 2 PMs in 6 months.
See, you guys only hear half of the story. I already told Sean in PMs yesterday that I would be at his door step in less than a week to add an even more aggressive cam, pull the heads and mill them down for 11.5 or more, and get the right head gaskets. All at my expense.
I understand that I never congratulated Sean, I could have sworn I did, but I never posted. Like I said, I apologize and I cannot believe I did that.
With all that on the table, and with the stakes of this "Race" now becoming more and more important, what does sean do? States, "We are done, Ive overnighted a TRex"
With statements like that, and not willing to understand that I screwed up, what am I supposed to do?
You can bet sean will go to the extent of taking every last ounce of weight out in that car, and milling the heads, and I bet he would even go to the extreme to cut out his current roll cage because he knows they wont kick him out at US41 for not having it.
So what was once going to be a fun day at the track is not fun at all any more.
Sean states that he doesnt feel appreciated? Again, all I ever had to do with him were cams. One after the other. He did well, and so did our cams. When he would get to the end of the performance on one, I would send another. He wanted a solid roller grind up next, so I figured he was moving out of the stock block arena, and building a motor. Great, Ill continue to provide him with cams.
If you guys were in my shoes, what would you have done?
Louis

Maybe you could have called me? Pm'd me?Asked how the car was doing?
I would have told you. This is the internet, I DID NOT wanna post anything other than a 9 second pass because the weather hasn't been equal to now(cam only times).
It's partially my fault for telling Keith what I was doing, because he had NO plans of putting heads on, that's why I told him.
I wanted to run 9.999 and throw the bottle back on, try and go for 8's and make everybody look good. Now that isn't going to happen.
You didn't know who Keith was racing? Please.
I do feel slighted, unappreciated, and disappointed but it's no one cares.
It's no big deal.
I race because it's fun and exciting for me, that's not gonna change.
We do things, suffer the consequences, and move on.
That's life.
Magnus
10-12-2005, 01:48 PM
For the few of you who try to take stabs at Louis, its clear you've never met him. He would go out of his way to help out racers on this forum. You make yourselves look like real asses when you try to knock down such a helpful person.
Sean, as a vendor myself, you can't go and track down all of your top customers and constantly ask them how they are doing.. It would be a full time job.. You think you and I are the only people who help LG show their power? I doubt that. What prevented you from contacting him and talking to him?
You didn't want to go more agressive or you would have asked.. but because I DID ask and went more agressive now you're blaming Louis when you should be blaming yourself.
I tell you a lot about my setup and yet you still tell me little about yours.
I tell you I'm not doing lexan front and rear like you so you have a big weight advantage there.. and yet I have a slightly larger cam and compression and now its all uneven and unfair??
You're taking the fun right out of the race man and I think you're being very ungreatful for the things that louis has done for the both of us.
It's a shame that Louis is now put into a undesireable position just because he wanted to help out some ls1tech racers. :(
It bothers me that you can so quickly just jump ship from LG. What does it take to please you?
I wanted our race at mayhem to be for FUN.. and about good times, but now you're trying to turn it into a vendor battle. That's not what our race(s) should be about.
The Juggernaut
10-12-2005, 02:00 PM

We asked Lou 2 years ago to give us the bigest that was possible and said we didn't mind running on the edge. For me it wasn't big enough so I specked my own. Sean is dealing with stock pistons and was told what he has is as big as will fit. Louis was not available to notch his pistons when he wanted so he ran what would fit out of the box. You on the other hand got a personal visit and Louis did the work.
ONEBADWS6
10-12-2005, 02:46 PM
As for you telling Sean everything your doing! All your doing is copying his setup and hopeing to be lighter and make more power through speed density to beat him. What did you come up with on your own? Are you the one with 500 passes setting up suspension and videoing it to see where it can be tweaked....NO You just say Sean what do you have I'll try that and hopefully beat you. So sorry if he doesn't want his own hard work to beat him.
Magnus
10-12-2005, 02:55 PM
Let me learn you a little...
First of all, Sean told me he is going with the AFR 205's back in the day cause he did NOT want to fly cut. .. Now, let me repeat that for you because you seem to have misinformation... He did NOT want to flycut.
When I confronted Louis about upgrading from cam only, I told him i WOULD fly cut..
Ok.. To recap.. Sean says no flycutting.. I say flycutting..
Now, on to part 2.
Sean has a TH400 with originally a 9" rear (i think) and a originally a 9" converter.
I chose to do a TH350, with a 12 bolt, and an experimental 8" converter. I ran 10.3's out of the box cam only. A few weeks later Sean was running the SAME EXACT converter as I.
Now, I don't mind this at ALL. We help eachother out here..
Sean runs a 29" tire on a larger gear.. I chose a 28x10.5W with a 4.10 gear..
That is the same gear mind you that i was running stock internals.
Also, I told so many people so many times that SD does not make you more power. It just removes the MAF as a restriction. If your MAF is a intake restriction then you will make more power. Can you not absorb this?
What in my setup is copied? I launch off the T-brake at WOT unlike Sean. I run a different tire/gear combo. I run a different trans, different rear end.. different front shocks..
I also tell Sean how much timing I run and where I shift the car.
Also, in regards to setting up suspension.. :jest:
Let see.. I've cut a 1.42 Stock internals, and then a 1.31 cam only..
It's not that hard to line crap up with an angle finder and ruler. :eyes:
First pass out with many suspension changes with the heads/cam setup, it cuts a 1.2 60' with a huge wheelie.. left straight and landed straight.. With 0 seat time.
Take your crap elsewhere.

Can't we all just get along?
ONEBADWS6
10-12-2005, 03:03 PM
I think I talk to Sean a little more that you do, he wouldn't fly cut because no one would do it for him. As for the rear trans combo you seen what he was running and went the less parasitic route. As as for the suspension how about all the PM's how do you keep the nose down, how do you do this, ect. And yes Sean was running a 9in converter, a N20 converter. But since you challenged his times he stood up to the plate and put in a Motor converter. Anything else you want to tell me? Jr.
ONEBADWS6
10-12-2005, 03:04 PM
When you first decided to go from SI to cam only the first thing you did was Sean what do you have and how did you do it. Next thing we know the same combo comes out just lighter with less parasitic parts.....hhhhhmmmm.
Magnus
10-12-2005, 03:17 PM
Are you serious?
Why would I go a more parasitic route? What sense does that make? My car is light as hell. It wouldn't make sense for me to go to a TH400 setup.
He put in the SAME EXACT converter I did. He didn't try to stick with the same brand or even the same size. He copied my converter exactly.
The reason I was asking how to keep the nose down is because Sean made it apparent to me that I would sit it on the bumper and crash into the wall. G.. does that sound good to to you? As I said in the post, thats why I started off my fronts so stiff.. And at the end of the day, with them at full loose and launching off of the t-brake I still couldn't stand it up.
Also, I had no intention to go cam only after I was SI. I just wanted to chill at that point but Louis came to me with some ideas, NOT Sean. It was LOUIS who lined me up with the G5X4, NOT Sean.
And I still do not have speedglass in front and rear... and my brackets aren't cut out like seans either.. AND my front fenders aren't swissed either.
Oh yea.. and i have a STOCK F-body seat..
I think you've had enough Son.. now go to your room.

Louis has always went out of his way to help me.
Can't we all just get along?
This trash talk is good. We get to hear about all the mods no one talks about. Looks like its the weight and not the magical LG cams that makes these cars so fast.
Its only a matter of time before the both of them show up with t-buckets.

Alright, enough.
All this bullshit isn't going to change anything.
This is off topic and unnecessary.
I'm gonna do my thing.
Keith is gonna do his thing.
Louis is gonna do his thing.
Knock it off, or I'm gonna start deleting posts.
I'm not a vendor, I really don't care who does what or with 'x' parts 2 'x' weight.
It's over , everybody move on.

We'll find out soon enuff. I'm at 2980 lb and when i throw a T Rex in my car next year i should be at 2800.
And right now i'm helpin my friend set up his car just like mine (weight wise) and then some and he's already got a T Rex. at 3150 he was running i belive 6.7 @ 101. should be around 2800 lb also here in a couple of months.
only difference is both our cars are daily drivers. :drive:

Cool, yeah I am all for lightening up the cars. I am gonna take off the a/c and powersteering on mine.
It just got a lil annoying with all the nutswingers hypeing the LG cams. Like it was the only reason these 2 cars are fast. Weight was most of the reason. And there is nothing wrong with it. Both of them were up front about the weight.
Its interesting to see what these cars are capable at max effort. Good luck to both at MIM. :drive:

it's 450 rwhp @ 2800 and putting it to the ground. There is no 'magic', just physics.

are you running open headers

I was running through dual Borla XR-1's off the headers, Magnus is extensions(I think).

Dont sell yourself short, the 133mph part is simple physics but you got the thing to hook, figured out the off the line tuning can be very important (something a lot of people overlook) for getting a nice 330, plus last time I seen the car it still looked pretty good for a lightweight. Takes a little 'magic' sometimes to get it all together ;)

ok, I'd have to agree a little with that.I kinda meant all things working the way they should.

Were the US41 scales working? I need to hit them next time.

Well thats true but how many times does everything work like it should in drag racing :) In reality luck or magic has nothing to do with it but you cant control all the variables so a little luck helps ;)

My original goal was to go 9.999 then spray it. Keith wasn't supposed to put heads
on, he said he was 'done', that's why i told him I was doing heads. So I now I have
to race him instead of spraying it. :(

The converter would probably take a 100-150 shot, I'd just have to change the gear.

narrow the 12bolt and mini tub the bitch! lol. just a question - wouldn't making the gear taller increase the experienced stall speed???
