Hmmm...anyone know anything about the mls gaskets leaking with the 5.7 heads with notches in them? Not sure I should even bother putting them on. I have a set of 5.3's that I haven't finished the port work on, so these were going to be temporary. Guess they may be really temporary.

You have 2 choices if you want to use notched heads.
1- Fill in the notches
2- Run notched gaskets.

Being you have a 6.0, option 1 is preferable.

Do not use MLS gaskets on heads with notches

Do not weld the notches shut on heads, it removes the heat treat from the heads and then blows gaskets anyway.

Fel Pro makes a 6.0 graphite gasket 9199PT

GM makes a 6.0 graphite gasket 12558936

Hope this helps

Learned something new (filed in archive).

But Brian, if the purpose of the notch was to remove heat, why did they do away with it after 2000?
As far as filling the notches, quite a few members here are running welded up notches with no issues. Of course a bandaged head does have limits.

whew...I knew if I wished hard enough there would be a simple solution. Now if I could only wish the car back together on its own. 1 year 11 months later ...
