Default should I shim a Textralia?

after a 500 mile Textralia break-in, a 100% throttle blast yields locked out gears. All new hydralics with new adjustable master were installed. There is zero air in the hydralics checked several times via MityVac. All the adjustment possible was used on the adjustable master and it still engages 1/2" from the floor. The only thing left would be a shim? Has anyone had to shim a Textralia? It feels like the clutch isn't disengaging.

I'd also like to know if there is a real benefit to the shimming....I had a powergrip HD installed in August and it's already screwing up. If I mess with the adjustment on the ram master I can get it to limp around (go into all the gears with some effort) for a little while but after 50 miles or so it tends to settle back into the state it is now, which is usually minus 1st and 3rd gears because it tends to lock out of those two gears first.

I did have an incident where I found the clutch line had made its way to the header and cooked all the fluid. So I purged all the old stuff and mityvaced and now it's in the state it is in. I wonder if I ruined my new slave cylinder but the shimming idea also sounds like it could be the culprit (or help). The clutch never has really worked out exactly liked I had hoped for and has always taken some coaxing to get into gear---not what I want when I take to the track. Any of you have shimming stories I'd love to hear them too because that may be part of the cause of this crap.

Shim will make it engage earlier, but disangage more. It's up to you. Mine enagages really early too but I know its disangaging because it shifts really smooth and easily off the line and at 6600rpm.

after intial install - it engaged 2 inches from the floor. 1.5 turns out on the adj master and it engaged at the top- perfect. After 500 mile break-in and the first quarter pass, the engagement went to floor and I have a brief hestitation before I can upshift into the next gear. My shift points are set at 6400, this is the first time I tried shifting at that RPM since the install. It took what should have been a low 12 second pass and turned into a mid 13. I tried making another pass and made another stellar 13 second pass.

EDIT: you added more info while I was typing

What master cylinder do you have? Have you tried adjusting the arm out anymore? Where does it engage now, and when you put it in first gear with the pedal down does the car lurk forward when you rev the engine?

I have the FMS adjustable master. Sometimes it will slide into 1st gear easy and the car will slightly roll forward. Sometimes 1st will not let me in. The clutch engages at the very bottom of the travel no matter where I adjust the arm at. The car does not lurk forward with a rev.

I just installed the Ram HD on my C5 and I did use there shim. I did not use an adjustable master however. It release pretty close to the floor but not too bad. I haven't had much of a chance to pund on it but it does seem to be working well.

Any idea how wide the shim was? A metal or paper shim? It must have been a turned flywheel.

The flywheel that came with this kit is new, as well as a new slave and new pilot bearing. I am beginning to wonder if the new 500 mile old slave didn't take a dump on me. It's not leaking anywhere. This sucks- there was nothing wrong with the old slave that I took out when the new clutch was put in.
