Default Anyone built the 8.1 truck engine?

I did a search and ther is no threads in LS1Tech with 8.1 in it lol. I was amazed.
Has anyone mess with that engine? Would it even be able to fit within teh factory fenderwalls? would be damn cool to see that engine in a F-bod.
Does it use the same size block as teh 454's used or is it bigger? How big could it be punched out to. Thanks

Yes, there was a thread about it a while back. However, I think it moved into the truck forum. Nobody has been bold enough to install one in a Camaro, T/A, etc. I would try it but already have enough projects.

One was put in a C5 a while back. Don't know why you'd want to with all the crap out there for the LS1?

Well a engine that starts out a 500 ci has alot more potential. Alot more streetable at the same power as well. Hell 600 rwhp n/a would be easy with a engine that big. Just a idea really. I dont see myself doing this to be a pioneer. I would like to do it this winter. Thanks

You'd be better off with a BBC to play with, more parts out there for it and less BS hassles with odd ball parts.

Is it a gen III engine? Looks like it to me which would make me think that the parts would pretty much be interchangable with other gen III engines.

Is it a small block and will it mount to the 4l60e or t56?

It's a big block and I don't think it will mount to either one, not for sure though.

I figured it was a BBC, but with all of the huge cubes SBC's are putting out, you'd never know.....

IIRC, they are part of the GEN VI engines.

All you want for the 8.1 is above. Morel also have the lifters for the engine for the aftermarket camshafts and Crane has the rocker arm kits.

i saw one in the parts yard and to me it looks like its the old school big block with just coil packs, diffrent intake, accessories and an aluminum oil pan. looks like the head and block are the same, so you could use all the aftermarket of the BBC with it.

as for fitting, i dont think it will
