i always did the same thing with my V1 took the outlet cord out, and i put the straight-phone line cord in, and ran the wire up and to the headliner, then down the a piller, and under dash and tapped into wire for the 12 volt outlet right in the console, i had it wired in my truck so it would turn on when i turned the car on, but i liked it so i can turn it off and on on my own so it doens't beep everytime i turn the car on, what kinda radar detector do you have

Just pick up a straight power cord, run it along the headliner and a-pillar, and then hook it up to the accessory and a ground... then you are good to go.

My Escort is mounted right upper left on top of rvm...I'll have to go check the wires in the headliner but mine come on when my car is turned on and turns off ~5 min after I exit vehicle. I'm using the timed ground circuit for the lights. (2000 Z/28)

the fuse panel inside the door jam has a female plug in the lower left corner labeled "ignition" Just crimp a male terminal onto the hot wire coming from the radar detector and plug it into this female terminal, then the radar detector will come on when the key is on and go off when you turn off the car

just splice into the hot wire going to the map lights at the rearview mirror. No wire running what so ever then. Of course the detector will stay on all the time. But it won't run the battery down. I leave mine on all the time.

That's not the best idea - see this other thread.

It is really quite easy to run a power wire down the A-pillar to either the fuse panel or the ignition wires. You can use the black wire from the map lights for ground. That gives you ignition-switched power and eliminates hooking into the circuits controlled by the (expensive) BCM.
