Angry A4 shifter consol makes lots of noise!!!!!!!

After a H/C swap my car viberates alot now. My freaken A4 shifter consol make constant noise all the time it is very very annoying! The part that make the most noise is the plastic slider cover that is instide the shifter vally, its the multi pieces one and they make noise no matter how I mess with them. Does anybody has this same problem? I was thinking about taking those out and replace it with a leather shifter boot like the new GTO A4s has. But I don't know if its possible. Does anyone has any other ideas that will help solve this ANNOYING PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

My car does the same thing ever since i put the cut out on it. Putting a boot on it like the GTO, like you said is not a bad idea. Maybe i can get my mom to fab up something out of leather, i might as well tell her to make one for the E-brake. Why didn't i think of this sooner.

Mine does the same thing intermittently, but when it does, it drives me insane. I've had the thing apart a couple of times and messed with it, but the tapping noise comes back ... I'm going to do the shift boot mod but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Those boot ideas looks great, I was woundering how is it still possible to use the gear indicator dot after removing all the sliders considering the meddle slider is the indicator for the gears. But definently a great mod to do, but may be with a nicer looking boot offcourse.

My tds make that thing rattle like crazy. I have taken that all apart twice for different reasons and haven't been able to help much. The boot thing is a good idea, but it looks really cheap, at least the one in the pic did. Time to start brainstorming I guess.

Let us know when you find one. I've searched all the usual parts chain stores and couldn't find anything that looked halfway decent. Afterthoughts has a generic one but it's $35-40 ...

Well I was thinking about getting a replacement boot for the 04 and later GTOs They look alot better than any after market ones I have seen, and since they are both made by GM Potiac maybe it will fit alot better than the after market ones too. I need to get a pricing from GM and see how much it cost first.

Yeah, I think it's the little gear indicator slider that makes most of the rattling. I don't know how you get the boot in while retaining that piece anyway. Post it if you find a good boot.
